This issue is caused by a transmission fault or malfunction, most likely a shift solenoid in the trans has failed or the trans control module has a problem, the trans can be tested for codes that will show what circuit or component of the trans controls is causing the light to stay blinking, have it tested.

I had a '91 Accord. When the car would get hot, i.e., sitting closed up in the hot sun, the car would not start. Not even turn over. I don't know what the D4 light is. I called John Eagle in Houston where I bought it brand new. The service supervisor said it was probably the main fuel relay. I think that's what he called it (it's been a few years). This relay shuts the gasoline off to the engine when the car gets too hot. It is a safey thing so that the car won't catch on fire, like in the case of an accident. He said to open all the doors and raise the hood so the car can cool off. Sure enough, after about 15 minutes or so, the car would start right up. If I remember correctly, I think the relay is located under the carpet on/near the firewall on the driver's side. Seems like the Honda OEM part was about $80.00. Don't know if this helps or not, but I thought I would throw in my two cent's. Good luck.

you have a transmission fault the D4 light blinks to tell you that there is a transmission problem when the light is blinking the transmission computer put the transmission into limp home mode so it will not shift normally and you should try not to drive it very far when it gets to this stage you need to have the transmission codes check to pin point the problem

Has anyone change the transmission fluid and used anything other than Honda ATF-Z1. If so, have the fluid/filter changed in this car and use only Honda Fluid. This is the only fluid that you can use in a Honda. Even if you have used the correct fluid an fluid/filter change may help. If that is not the case then I suggest you seek out a trusted professional.
