Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

I have a 2000 Chevy impala 3.4l v6 just over a 180k miles on it..I was leaving my driveway one morning and my wife had the parking brake on,I have a lol has to back out and I heard a loud pop...took the brake off and everything seemed fine for the next week or so...now about a week later the trans seemed to have slipped out of gear after stopping at a light it slowly crept to a parking lot once on an incline did the same thing now on a flat surface it would go into drive and reverse after a lil push in neutral got it towed home was told to change fluid and filter, did that worked for 2-3 days pretty close to fine and then leaving the house 4th day seemed to be the same thing so I got it to creep to autozone and had obd checked gave 2 codes....a P0742 and P1404 the evr valve isn't a major issue or concern at this point if the car won't drive...it shifts into all gears it will drive and reverse but its sluggish if it does drive it climbs to speed but not as it should...the fluid was real dark almost black as used oil the magnet had a good amount of debris stuck to it during filter change any suggestions on further steps?

SOURCE: Transmission slipping

My maxima uses only Matic K fluid. & I think another dealer put the wrong one druing service but no way to prove it. But it's 100% your transmission. I've been complaing since i got my maxima in 05 brand new. within 5000 miles I was complaing its transmission. Now today I have 52000miles now they admit something is wrong Luckly i was under warranty. I've been informed by former mechanics if once dealer does not find anything the 1st time they call all the local dealers & give eachother a heads up no to waste time on that specific car.I had to push the service advisor to go for a test drive to prove my car was having problem.
Good luck man

But I am afraid I can't tell you want all these codes mean for your car. It was probably not related to the change in fluid that was performed. However, it is serious and should not be driven until fixed. Risk of total destruction of the transmission is too great. I would assume the symptoms are so diverse that it may be a bad transmission control module. Which is about $200, and fairly easy to replace:

But there are other possibilities, such as a bad relief valve could be letting main pressure drop too low.
This is the type of thing which does require an expert and can't easily be done remotely.

Hi, you may have a torn brake booster diaphram. Try disconnecting the brake booster and plugging the hose with a rag. Don't drive it without the booster, but set the parking brake and see how it runs in the driveway. If this clears up the problem, replace the booster.

My wifes car is stuck in park. It is a 2008 chevy impala

These cars have a shifter lock that is integrated with your brake pedal. The solenoid should release when your pedal is depressed.Check to make sure your fuses are good first.

How did you depress the pistons? Did you use a heavy duty Air tool clamp? I'v done brake jobs in my driveway using basic cheep clamps and only manpower. Been successful. Also done total ceased you would not believe Just took Some Nasty brute force and the right tool You should be good to go.

2006 Chevy Impala stuck in park

When you turn ignition on it releases a cable that is attached to the shifter also the shifter has a solenoid attached to it that is released when you step on the brake. Both times that I had the problem of button stuck and cant shift out of park the solenoid was sticking and wouldnt release .

Brake Light

to narrow things down... park the vehicle in the driveway over night... when you move it in the morning ... note the area of the spill on your driveway as it would apply to the car.
Two quick things... what is the level of your brake fluid and what colour and smell was the spill ?
