SOURCE: air bags
There are nuts on the back of the steering wheel for the driver side, they are in holes sunk down in there, the passenger side is retained buy nuts behind the air bag, you may have to remove the glove box liner to get at these nuts.

First of all you need to get this problem fixed ASAP. While the airbag light is illuminated, your SDM (Sensing and Diagnostic Module aka: the brain of your airbag system) shuts of power to the airbags. In which, if you are in an accident your airbags will not deploy while this light is illuminated. You need to take your vehicle to a GM dealership. A Tech 2 scantool is needed to retrieve the code from the SDM. Hopefully it won't be a costly repair, but is something that defineatly needs to be corrected soon. Good luck and hope all works well.

Testimonial: "very fast and helpful, thanks"
You will need to retrieve the DTC associated with this light. The air bag light operates the same way the check engine light operates in that it will only illuminate when the system recognizes an error. The airbag light is very common in the GM SUV's but can be the result of several issues ranging from crash sensors to electrical harnesses under the seat. Check the codes and post here so we can further help.

This model always this problem, usually after about 90,000 miles and the other instruments will eventually follow. There are companies that will repair this for you just use google (instrumentclusters.com) to find them. I was charged 185.00 for the repair... GM wanted over 500.00!

You need to get the codes from the Supplemental Inflatable Restraint module S.I.R.This is the only way to tell what is causing the light to come on.Let me know what codes you get and I`ll be glad to help you out.Hope this helps.Good luck.
