Re: I lock the back door of my dodge (1997 grand caravan)...
Take a screwdriver and place it in the opening behind the metal piece ...apply light pressure against the metal piece as you pull the handle like you were opening the liftgate....this should allow the piece to flip open

The door jam,the metal part on the door that catches the other metal part to allow it to close right sounds like its messed up, ita a part on the door part that could just need to be pushed up and oiled so it will catch right to close.I've had that problem so its worth a shot.
For late 90's Caravans and Voyagers they have had issues with the main PIN connection to the instrumentation. As they cannot use lead any more in solder it has become more brittle because of this small solder joints on electronics are cracking causing these issues (trust me I had to make this repair on my wifes Voyager) you'll need to remove the gage panel from the dash. To do so the trim pieces around the panel must be removed, use a medium phillps screw driver. Once you remove the gauge panel there is a plug which will need to be removed. After which very carefully look at the solder joints on the PIN connections to this panel, look for a small dark ring arond a solder joint, if you see one this is a crack. Using a solder iron carefully reheat this solder and allow to flow, this will repair the crack. Take your time and be carefull with the solder iron. As for the locks and windows check all fuses and the switches.
I hope this may have helped,
I saw this before and a wire was touching metal. It causes the door lock to mess up and stay locked you have to find the wire The one I saw was touching the metal plate on the door cover handle. A wise friend told me he has see it happen and he has found the wire that causes the trouble.
if you can opperate the latch use something to make sure the jaws are open should close then or try adjusting the latch or post the trouble with it opening in the first place may have been a miss adjusted latch this also may be why it wont close
