Question about 2000 GMC Jimmy

Open Question

I have a 2000 jimmy, when i bought it the fuel gauge was not working.it was jumping up and down and was unreliable.I put in a new pump, tank ,filter and gas cap. The guage again is not working properly. One minute you step on brake the fuel gauge will drop to empty and low fuel light will come on,after driving, it might shoot up to full when tank is only half and sometimes it is where it should be.Also when you leave truck parked for 8 or more hrs it seems you have to crank it to start as it not getting fuel.If I turn key to the on position and pause to let gas get from back to front it seems to start alot easier. Why is the fuel returning to the tank when not running? I have had the fuel pressure check and was told it was okay.

SOURCE: 2000 gmc jimmy wont start fuel pump comes on and cuts off...

When you hook the pressure test guage to shrader valve on fuel rail what it reads is what the pressure is from pump, around 60 p.s.i. all you need to do is hook up the guage and turn on key, you do not have to turn engine over, and if pump is good it will shoot up to 58 or 60 right now.

2000 Dakota quad cab fuel gauge wont work, jumps to full when started, fuel pump has been replaced. What next?

Check for a frayed wire touching metal and grounding out. The gauge works on resistance and it registering full indicates a short to ground. Either that or your gauge itself is bad.

Try pouring a little gas into the throttle body and starting. If it runs and dies, most likely a bad fuel pump. I already had to put two of them on my 1998 jimmy. Good luck!

I have a 2000 Chevy Silverado 1500 I put a fuel pump in and 2 weeks later it wouldn't start took it out put a new one in worked for about 8 months but my gas gauge never worked right then that one failed...

It should not need to be pushed down to put the retaining ring on. The pump is hitting on the baffle and the float evidently is also. That would be why the gauge isn't working. If the filter sock is not on the bottom of the tank, it can only pick up fuel from the height it is sitting on. Don't know if the baffle is loose, but would pull the pump back out and look inside to be sure the baffle is open to the bottom where the pump should be dropping in. Hope this helps

2001 jimmy fuel sending unit

if you take the time to drop the fuel tank you might as well replace the fuel pump module. this will come with a new fuel pump and level sending unit. DO NOT USE AN AIRTEX brand. they will leave you with more problems! Get an a/c delco or delphi pump. make sure to replace the fuel filter at the same time.

I would replace the harness going to the pump assembly. They are notorious for going bad. A lot of the new pumps come with it. Hope this helps, TJ

Fuel gauge wont work 97 jimmy

Common problem, it can be a ground wire (not any ive seen) the float assy can be bought through your local gm dealer instead of buying the whole pump assy.

Gas gauge dont work jumps back and forth is there a ground?

if it jumps really fast you probably have a bad gauge/instrument cluster. if it moves back and forth with a slower/normal rate of movement you probably have a bad fuel level sending unit located in the tank.

Fuel gauge jumps around

Depending on the severity of the problem, Sea Foam fuel additive can fix this (or at least lessen the crazy jumping around). It's available at NAPA. It worked on my Jimmy. However, in my case gauge started jumping around with less than 1/4 tank (worked fine when full).
