SOURCE: 2003 Buick Century Custom and the Service Engine Soon Light

You will need to have a reputable mechanic do a diagnostic check on the car to determine the problem. This should pull up a code number in your car's computer and help point the mechanic and you in the direction of the malfunctioning part/s.

Just today, I had a diagnostic check done on mine for nearly $45.00. The mechanic was able to figure out the reason why my service engine light was staying on. I knew my car's radiator fans failed to run when car's engine was hot except when the A/C was running. I had changed out the sensors and was never able to get the light to go out or get the fans working. They were able to determine that the 25 amp fuse for the fans located under the hood was blown. After replacing it, the fans worked as they should, my car runs cooler and the engine service engine light is now out. Of course there are many possible reasons why the service engine light may come on including problems with the car's emissions. A reputable mechanic can solve your problem.

SOURCE: the gear shift indicator light and the odometer

you will need the instrument cluster replaced. there are several companies that rebuild them, take it to a qualified repair shop, I'm sure they have a place they deal with to repair these. you will need to send yours in, as they usually want the old one first, to program mileage.

My buick century 1991 has dignostic problem code 27

Code 27 refers to a problem with the "mid gear switch" located inside the transmission. Now I would start checking the connector going to the transmission for good clean contacts. Quick check to see if it's the ECM or the wires: disconnect connector at transmission. Using a test light, check terminal "C" and "B" for 12VDC, be sure ignition switch is "ON", engine "OFF". If yes on both, look at tranny for problem. If no on both, check wires at ECM and in between. If no on one and yes on the other, do the same. If all wires, connectors and grounds check out, replace ECM.

I am also seeing that both these codes refer to circuit that get power through the brake switch. I think I would start there, are your brake light working? Are all your fuses okay?

Keep us updated.

You need to get the trouble codes out of the computer first. Take it to your local autoparts store and they can hook up a scan tool and retreive codes this give you a general area start looking for the problem.

Sounds like carbon build up on the ( IAC Valve ) idle air control valve. Take IAC valve off and get a can of non-chlronated brake cleaner and a wire brush and clean carbon out of valve. If this does'nt fix it take the mass air flow sensor off and do same but do'nt use wire brush just the cleaner.Afterwards reset the computer by taking the ground off the battery for 30 seconds or pull the ECM fuse out then put it back and this will reset the computer.HOPE THIS HELPS!!

Throttle position sensor may need to be replaced or checked. Any codes? Check engine light on? As the 1-2 shift, the detent aka kick down cable may be out of adjustment. This cable runs from the throttle body into the transmission. It has a button on the cable near the throttle body on cable housing. Push it in and this will loosen the cable. With car off, mash the accelerator all the way down and this should reset it.

Change oil light is still illuminated

First I would say that the " change oil " might need to be re-re-set. Pump the gas pedal 3X up and down fully to the floor within 5 sec. The Service Engine pertains to the Emission and Engine. The vehicles onboard comouter must be scanned to retrieved stored FAILURE CODES. Reading the codes will direct you to the area of trouble.. Cooling fans MIGHT be a problem, but with the Park Ave's automatic climate control, fan cycling with the A/C compressor running and outside temp variations would be considered NORMAL. TRANSMISSION shift prblems might be related to the SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT. Hope this helps.

Buick 94 century custome reving and irratic stumbling etc.

I've had this problem. It's most likely a large fail in one, or series of small problems in all, of these:
IAC (Idle Air Control) Valve - Will cause erratic idle
ERG (Exhaust Gas Return) Valve - Will cause irregular acceleration
*TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) - Most likely the culprit. It was my major problem. It'll cause exactly what you described.

And if you did not know this, your car is equipped with an OBD (On Board Diagnostic) system. Next time the service light comes on, whether the car is running or not, push [OFF] and [TEMP UP] on your climate control and hold for about 3 seconds. All the dash lights will come on and any error codes will be displayed where your odometer is.
Other controls are:
[FAN UP] -OK
[FAN DOWN] - Next
[OFF] - Rescan
[BI LEV] - Quit
