Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

I have a bmw 520i e39 2002 reg and I am trying to change the side light bulb but it appears that the holder and bulb are one fitting complete. Is there any way round this as a new unit is expensive to say that I only need a bulb. Thanks.

There has to be a way to access the bulb without replacing the whole unit-or BMW will be out of business soon. Maybe from the back where it's mounted, or maybe the lens is stuck to the unit by its waterproof rubber seal. Keep trying. All I can say.

SOURCE: xenon headlight problems

there are 3 things that make the xenon in your car work the bulb, an ignitor, and a control module, you know your bulbs are ok so thats good, now you will want to swap the control modules they are a metal box attached to the headlight assembly its roughly 4"x4" you will remove the hheadlight assemblys to get to the module, there are 4 8mm bolts and then it pulls out, it the light follows the control module then thats what you will need if not you will need an ignigtor, as far as the flickering that is moet likely the module going bad, the company that makes this system is AL (automotive lighting) there is an SIB from BMW about this that says under a warr claim both control modules are to be replaced and the bulb of the faulty headlight, however i cant count the number of times i have done all that and still have to replace the ignigtor, If it is the Ign that is alot harder to swap as you have to dis assembly the entire light assembly

SOURCE: Location of oil filter on BMW 323i coupe '99 reg

Both E36 and E46 models have oil filter under the hood, towards the front of the block. You will need a special socket to remove the oil filter cap and once it's out, can replace the filter. Make sure to replace the gasket on oil filter cap, it should come in oil filter kit you bought.

I have one bulb out thinking it was just the bulb blew, I changed them all and it's still out.what could this be

First check the inside of the bulb holder for corrosion and damage. If the bulb isn't a tight fit/making contact, the electrical circuit won't be complete.

It's more likely to be a simple wiring problem- an earthing problem.

Check the wire on the defective light - particularly the black earth wire for corrosion/security of attachment. If the bulb can't 'earth' it won't light up.

A quick check you can do is put the bulb into the holder, switch on the lights, then hold a wire against the metal side of the bulb with the other end of the wire against any suitable earthing point.

If the bulb lights up - it's an earthing problem.

What bulb do I need to get my headlight working

Hi there:
I suggest go to the Vauxhall website, sign up for "My Vauxhall" (it's free) and you can then download a manual in pdf format. The earliest manual for an Astra is 2002, but the headlight bulb changing instructions will be the same, and should be on pages 212 onward.

If its the dipped headlight bulb then the bulb itself (H7 fitment) sits inside a brown L shaped bulb holder that twist fits into the lens. Just twist it anti clockwise and remove - disconnect the multi-plug connector from the bottom of the brown bulb holder first tho.

If however its the main beam bulb (HB3 fitment) then the bulb holder is actually part of the bulb and comes as 1 complete unit.

I trust from your description that its the dipped bulb thats gone. Once its light, have a look and see what u think

It really is straight forward and you shouldnt have any issues. If you manage it - then note how the bulb fits into the bulb holder and fit the new bulb in its place - dont touch the glass though so use the base to push it into position... refit, twist into position making sure the 3 tabs around the edge of the bulb holder are correctly seated and fit the electrical connection in place.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day.

How to replace bulb in front bumper turn signal housing 1995 jag xj6

  • Identify the blown bulb. Note that if a headlight bulb has blown, the dip beam is on the outside and the high beam is on the inside. Turn off the ignition switch and light switches.

  • Open the hood and replace any blown headlight bulbs. Press the plastic spring clips and remove the bulb holder from the assembly. Pull the bulb out of the bulb holder and replace it with a new bulb. It only fits one way. Be sure not to touch the bulb's glass. Replace any parking lights at the same time, they are in the headlamp unit too.

  • Remove the front turn signal light unit in the bumper to change the turn signal bulb. Push gently on the inside edge and insert a blade between the bumper and the lens at the outside edge. Compress the spring and remove the lens. Fit a new lamp by inserting it into the plug. The side marker light is changed using a similar process.

  • Open the trunk to replace the rear fog light, stop light, tail light, reversing light and turn signal light. Remove the rear light cover and turn the bulb holder fastener 90 degrees counter clockwise. Remove the expired bulb, fit a new one and replace the parts, turning the bulb holder clockwise.

  • Thanks..

How to change the headlight bulb

Open the hood. Look at top corners of headlight assy, and you will notice two metal "L" shaped holders. Rotate these forward out of their plastic mounts. Pull both up and completely out. With a little side ways jiggling you can now remove the entire headlight assy. Turn the bulb holder clockwise to remove. Gently pry the holding clip to release bulb holder and bulb {they are one piece) from wiring connector. Install new bulb in reverse order. Tip: clean new bulb with rubbing alcohol before installing into headlight housing, because oil from fingers will greatly reduce bulb life. Also many auto part stores will install for free if you buy the bulb from them.
