I had the same problem. Service guy said to take palm of hand to push key inward hard and turn. Maybe too many keys on ring. Just push in hard and turn key.

Try this.. Try to turn the steering wheel one way or the other while turning the key. If there is any pressure on your steering system, it will lock up your key cylinder. This usually comes from the tires being wedged against a curb or having the wheels turned all the way to one side when you shut the engine off. Don't pound on it with a hammer

Take a small hammer and with the key removed tap the lock cylinder. then retry it the tumblers may be sticking. eventually you will need to replace the lock cylinder but this may help u get it going now

Why won't my ignition key turn over and my steering wheel is locked in place at the sametime?

I'm assuming you mean your key wont turn in the ignition. first off check to make sure the car is in park. then what you gotta do is put in the key and put a little pressure as if turning but dont turn too hard, then even though the steering wheel is locked you will have to try to move it a little, if you parked with your tires turned then you will want to try to turn the wheel in the same direction, (even locked you should be able to move it about a half inch) you will have to turn the wheel hard but it should move enough to allow the key to turn, you may have to jiggle the key a little in the ignition but it should eventually turn, just remember not to try turning the key too hard, the extra force wont make it go but can cause the key to break. this tends to happen when you turn the car off andthe steering wheel gets locked if the wheels are turned hard in either direction. also if multiple attempts at this still dont work, try taking the key out and turning it over and trying again. Even though both sides of the key are identicle, because of wear on the key and the ignition, sometimes when the wheel locks the ignition, it will only turn if the key is put in a certain way. Hope this helps, good luck

Steering wheel is locked and my key wont turn in the ignition. Have all power. Could it be the steering wheel lock or transmission or securtiy system?

I would say it is the ignition switch. You can try to get the steering wheel unlocked moving it, but usually when the key won't turn, it is the switch or security system. You will need to reset it to find out. Call the dealership if you don't have it.

2001cav 2.2 put the key in and can't turn itj everthing is locked up any ideas.

Does your vehicle have a security system? If so, it might need reset. This would cause it to lock up. Try moving the steering wheel back and forth, left to right, while you are trying to turn the key. You might be able to get it unlocked this way. Your steering column may have locked up. If not, you may need to get a new ignition switch. I would try moving it back and forth. Don't be afraid to give the steering wheel so major pressure. Hope this helps.

I own a chevy blazer and steering locked and key wont turn

Hi the chances are the steering lock has locked in a funny position and this is causing it to stay locked.
what you need to do is put the key in the ignition then get hold of the steering wheel and turn it to the left and right as hard as you can whilst turning the key when the steering wheel is turned one way it should unlock the lock and allow you to drive your vehicle.

the wheel may be hard to turn so have the key in the ignition the turn the steering wheel quite hard whilst turning the key doing this should get the lock off and allow you to drive.

let me know if you need further assistance ok

also try putting the key in the other way round as it might be wore on the one side so also give that a try.

plz rate this solution as i have a whole page of unrated posts, thanks

Key won't turn in the ignition and the steering wheel is locked

In hope that you have the right key, put him in, try to turn the steering wheel a little bit at the same time you try to unlock the ignition.Sometimes it's possible that you've used your steering wheel as help wile getting out of the car. At this case, maybe the wheel lock snaps in, but the wheels are under pressure from the ground. Now you want to unlock your car at it seams that the key wont turn. The wheels get pressure from the ground, so the whole steering is under pressure and your steering wheel pressed against the locker block. If you try to turn the locked steering wheel, you'll see that it turns appr. 1" to one side. This is the needed space to unlock with the key. I hope that works in your case.

Hello, my steering wheel is locked! I tried wiggling the wheel and turning the key and that didnt solve the problem. Let me mention the ignition would not turn over in the first place, even when my car...

All you need to do is turn your steering wheel to the left all the way till it stops then put your key in while still holding the steering wheel to the left, turn the key to the on position this should release your steering wheel!

1993 toyota camry ignition wont turn

the steering wheel SHOULD be locked if the key is not in the ignition and turned to the 1st position.  If you can turn the steering wheel more than an inch or so without the key n the first position,  the ignition switch (read: thingy you put the key in) is bad.
Sometimes you may have to move the steering wheel slightly to one side or the other to get the key to turn,  this in itself is not a cause for alarm. Try it and let us know.  If this doesn't work, you are probably looking at a couple hundred dollars parts and labor to get the switch/steering wheel lock mechanism fixed.
