I have just bought a seat alhambra that turns over very slowly when cold. Once it has had a run it turns over at "normal" speed. Does anyone have any ideas. I have had the battery checked and was told it...

iam assuming its a diesel as most of these are ,its a VW although its badged as every other make mine is a ford galaxy and its a brilliant motor.Right firstly change the oil and use a 10/40 then if problem persists change the starter motor as the coils in it could be throughing up a high resistance ,this often happens on diesels as no one has the patience to wait for the heater light to go out ,also remove the heater glow plugs and check they all work, and never ever repeat never ever crank engine for more than 15 seconds always stop and repeat the heater light sequence ,also it does help if you fit a non return valve into the feed and return pipe to stop the fuel from running back to the tank as the valves in the injector pump do go weak and allow the fuel to run back to the tank overnight .

Second wire in engine compartment fuse box melted? where does wire go?

secondary ground wire fried!!? this tells me that your main ground did lose its contact somewhere.usually opposite the battery side. when this happens, and you try to say, start the car, all that amperage will follow any available ground it can find, usually through the actual wiring harness that covers the entire car. see, most vehicles have 2 ground cable setups..a main, and a secondary.. the main consists of the large cables as well as "ground straps" which look flat and are made of braided wire and run from the car body to the block and areas like that. now if these fail or loose connection, the only other source for grounding will be the loop i the harness which is not big enough to handle the amperage needed to run the starter motor when activated by the ignition key. now since yours burnt up, it must be replaced and all ground wires checked..also check for shorts in the system elsewhere, with a meter if necesary, you can also disconnect the battery entirely and connect a 6 amp battery charger directly to the cables(like charging the car without the battery) and if there is a short, the guage on the charger will peg over without fear of fire you will hear a buzzing sound where the short is (usually)..I have used this trick to find shorted blower heater motors or wiper motors on big trucks..if this ground wire is wrapped into the actual harness setup, you will need to replace it by cutting loose the old one, run a new wire into any part of the system thats not damaged, usually near the headlight fixtures, then run it back to the original starting point ,then its process of elimination as to what will work and what wont, remember, all circuits will function some with the charger attached instead of the battery, you will hear a buzzing or humming especially when checking the radio..good luck

Seat Alhamba will not start.

I don't know if re-programming is the answer but any Seat/VW main dealer can do this for you. Trouble is they will change you for a few minutes work!! However, if your key is the sort that i have for my Alhambra (chunky one) then if you follow these instructions then it should work.

How to reprogram the C/L remote control key fob

1. Take the valet key, put it into the ignition and turn the key to the "on" position, just prior to starting the car.

2. Roll down the driver's side window (not required, but a good idea in case there's a problem).

3. Exit the car and close the door.

4. With a second key, physically lock the doors (don't use a remote).

5. Take the first remote to be programmed, press one of the buttons and the lights will flash once. Wait 10 seconds and press the unlock button. The doors should unlock. That first transmitter is now programmed.

6. Lock the door again (physically) with the key, (not the remote).

7. Press one of the buttons twice, the lights will flash twice. Wait 10 seconds and press the unlock button. The doors should unlock. The second transmitter is now programmed.

For a third transmitter press the button 3 times and for a fourth press 4 times.

"Make sure that to test the newly program remotes, the original key is removed from the ignition. Someone might be a bit frustrated trying to test it with it still in 'program' mode."

Hope it works for you!

All the best, RobboArsenal
