What you should check is firing order, any motor that has spark and petrol must at least back fire, when try to start, if it is still not doing that I would do a compression test to make sure compression is ok, then check the carb to make sure there is fuel in it and that the flot level in carb is correct check clean the carb all the jets and places where petrol flows through the carb, once you have completely clean and checked the carb then you know it's not the carb then you go to the next thing. Spark, is the bogie cables work properly replace them if it is shorting out against the body of the engine, replace the condenser that is on the side of the rotor cap those things are known to give trouble, they work sometimes and then it stops working, anyway good luck hope this is of use to you.

SOURCE: 1988 mustang 5.0 efi flooding engine will not

Step one
Click the key forward BUT don't start the car listen for fuel pump to pressurize and shut off. But if the pump keeps running change the fuel pump relay switch under drivers seat. If its pressurizing and shuts off then its not your fuel pump. Fuel pressure at rail when idling is 30 psi.
Let me know what happens cause I know alot about Stangs had 2 5.0

check fuses 28 and 34. I don't have all the diagrams, but it may be that the pump or injectors use a different fuse for start versus run.

Ford mustang tries to start but will not continue running. We checked the battery, spark plugs, starter, and alternator. We believe the problem is either with the fuel pump driver module or the pump...

try spraying starting fuid into the throttle body and see if it runs then for a few seconds. If yes, check fuel pressure. It should be 34 psi with engine running, 40 psi key on engine off. More liley th pump in the fuel tank.

My 1988 t-bird will not start. electric fuel pump is working and has spark. it is a 5.0 EFI.fuel comes from the bleeder valve as I try to start it but will not start. can spray starter fluid into intake...

Does the fuel spray out of bleeder or run out. Should spray out with a lot of pressure. Have you checked fuel filter? If its not spraying out good and not the filter i would replace the pump.

1988 mustang LX 5.o wont start. Can here fuel pump prime when i turn key and can here it prime agian when i turn key back.

Check for spark at one of the plugs. If none, then check spark at the coil. While cranking, coil pos should light a 12 vvolt test light, and it should flash rapidly on coil neg. Also try spraying carb cleaner in the intake while cranking, but be careful. If you run into the no spark situation, an ignition module is the most likely cause.

look under the hood on the drivers side, where 1 or 2 black boxs are located, inside are fuses and relays, check these out, especially the start relay.

1966 Mustang I6 starting problem

Sounds like the fuel pump, clogged fuel filter, or a stuck needle and seat in the carburator.

Car was running, now quit and won't fire up now?

Take a spark tester and plug it into the wire and plug and see if you have spark. Now take a can of starter fluid and spray it into the air intake to see if it will start. If no spark, it is electical. If it starts with starter fluid, no fuel, If it has spark, but won't start with the starter fluid, good chance timing chain, or sensor is bad. That old if the timing chain has never been changed...good place to look after the other tests pass.

Egine not getting fuel

Couple of things, when you turn the ignition key to the run position, you should here the fuel pump "hummmm" for roughly 2 to 5 seconds.
If you can not here the pump run, check the fuel pump fuse under the hood.
If that is OK, find the fuel pump relay in the same fuse box and swap it with another relay that looks just like it and try to start.

Also, there is a fuel pump prime wire located up near the brake master cylinder or firewall area. It is a single gray wire with a RED connector on it. If you jumper battery voltage to that wire, you can run the pump.
Good luck, let me know.
