Question about 1995 Ford Mustang GT
My 1995 Mustang GT has been running rough recently. The check engine light goes on and off periodically, the air bag light comes on and off periodically and often flashes, and the anti-lock light stays on. It idles really rough. It'll bog down really low to about 500rpm, then it'll rev up to 1100, settle at 750, idle good for about 15 seconds, then repeat. When driving down the road in overdrive, the car will **** (or miss) when in a higher gear. I can turn overdrive off, and it'll run perfect. There was one occurrence when I was just driving as I usually do with a normal amount of throttle, and the car wouldn't shift up until I hit about 3500 rpm. When I shut the car off, and started it back up, it ran fine. We have replaced almost EVERYTHING. Mass air flow, ECU, distributor, coil, fuel Pump, fuel filter , body control module, plugs, plug wires, idle control sensor, O2 sensors, air filter, and the Temperature control sensor. We are almost at the point of giving up and this is a last resort..

SOURCE: car idles rough & wants
You have 2 faults going on this is common failure patter a idle air control and egr open, the 02 sensor was not at fault it was reporting the engine condition and had nothing to do with the stalling listen to the engine you may find a vacuum hose rupture follow it along the pcv valve you mainly have a vacuum leak or a open egr

sounds like EGR valve and sensor this controls idle speed when at a stop. the po171 is a burn lean or rich code need to know what bank 1 or 2. also check for a vacuum leak from one of the hoses.

Is it the 2.8? I am just thinking of what cycles and would cause the engine to run bad. The fuel relay would not be the problem. Because if it doesn't close, then the engine does not run at all. The power distribution box is a possibility. But I am thinking about what you are saying the problem cycles. That is the strange thing. I think that the cycling has to do with pressure in the fuel tank. Have you tried changing the gas cap? That could be all that the problem is. But it could also be the vent in the fuel tank. The reason why I am thinking this is because the fuel tank builds pressure from the gas sloshing around and when it builds up too much pressure then it relieves. What do you think?

Have you checked for spark on all 8 plugs? Unplug the exhaust side coil pack and run the engine. Does it run on all 4 cylinders?
