SOURCE: 99 grand am gt overheating changed thermostat and

try priming the engine block & radiator with water though the hose's & any hose you can squeeze to pump out the air lock with the filler cap off when running, sounds too much air is is in the system & the pump won't work dry.
I had this problem a few times & I ended up practically forcing water into any hose I could re-attach quickly using a garden hose, as the heating system need's priming too !

Check and see if cooling fan is operating. Check to see if you have any trace of water in the motor oil. It is probably a head gasket.
Let me know what you find.

Car overheating

Two things to check:

1. Make sure you do not have an air bubble in your cooling system. Easiest way is to park facing uphill and let the car cool off. Remove the radiator cap, start the car and let run until the thermostat opens. If there are air bubbles in the cooling system the should be forced out. Top off fluid.
2. Are you sure that the cooling fan is running? When the car is getting hot, open the hood and make sure the radiator fan is actually turning.

Does a water pump on a 2006 Prius that is "leaking" via the weep hole indicate that the pump needs to be changed asap or is this something that should be eventually addressed? BTW: the converter...

Hi, leaking via weep hole indicates the water pump seal is bad....pump is shot. I would consider this an urgent fix. Any coolant leak is an urgent fix......MIke

I changed a thermostat on a 2004 dodge intrepid 2.7 and there is a hole thats located next to the bottom housing bolt leaking coolant

The hole you are describing sounds to be the wheap hole for the water pump
years ago the first time i had that issue it drove me nuts to figure it out .. btw not really a job to take on by yourself as it is a chain driven motor, also make sure you are prepared to pay more than the mechanic tells you as it is common to have to change the chain tensioner after this repair (when they collapse the hydrolic unit alot of times they will not "re-inflate")

97 chevy 1500 coolant leak

It is the water pump most likely, they have ,what they call a weep hole in the bottom under the pulley,so they will leak out to let you know to change them right away.If it is on the top coming from the intake area,it would be the intake, they are also bad to leak, but look at the pump, under the pulley.

How do you know its the water pump?

it the water pump is bad there is a n easy way to check, normally the temperature rises gradually and if you pull the belt off and wiggle fan if there is any movement it's a sure sign the pump is worn out. also leaking out the lower weep hole is a sure indication the pump seal is gone.

No, what you're seeing is the weep hole leaking on the water pump. This is the warning sign that the water pump is worn out. Don't use any stop leak or anything to attempt to stop it. You'll be waisting your time. You'll have to replace water pump at this point.
