have you renewed the spark plug lead? if you did and even the spark plug too, check if spark is coming out from the HT lead if yes, better to do a compression test to see the ratio and if is low comparing it with the other cylinders, possible you have either burnt valve or possible very tight valves where you should ask an expert to do the job for you . Another possibility to check is the fuel injector probably is not working correctly.

go to any kragen or autozone parts store, they will run the test for trouble code that turned light on for free, tell them u want an OBD 2 trouble code test, then post the code here.

SOURCE: Sluggish performance and engine light - added new plugs and oil

You need to check for engine codes to see what is wrong. Bring it to a parts store for a free scan for codes. The check engine light indicates a problem, probably the emissions system, which is causing the poor performance. The parts store will plug a hand held scan tool into the cars diagnostic port (usually located under the dash) and 'read' any codes stored in the cars computer. They can them tell you what code #'s come up, what they mean, and how to correct the problem. If you have any questions after that, post them here w/ the code #;s for further help.

The check engine light is telling you the computer is detecting a problem from one or several sensors. You will need to have someone use a scanner to pull the codes. Places like auto zone offer this service for free(they want to sell you parts). Once you find out the codes then you can try and determine what the problem is. Could be anything from a bad plug wire to a plugged fuel filter.

190,000+ miles. Engine shakes while running and driving. Seems to shake less while revving and accelerating. I replaced the spark plugs. Any suggestions?

Check your engine mounts. It's an easy check. With the hood up, have a friend jump in the car and crank the engine. Look for the engine to "shake" or "jump" when he shifts the vehicle from park to reverse and back to park again.

The spark plugs are under the coil packs. remove the top plastic engine cover and you will see a coil for each cylinder, remove one coil at a time and with coil removed you will see spark plug in hole.

The check engine light came on the car shakes when pressing on gas pedal

Take the vehicle to Auto Zone or Advance Auto and ask them to read the fault code for you and they will do it for free and tell you what part you need. Most likely this is a Crank Position Sensor or cam Position sensor but the code reader will tell you which one so you don't waste time or money on the wrong one.

Check engine light

Take it to an Auto Zone or Advance Auto store and ask them to read the code for you so you have an idea of where to look. The code will tell you what the problem is.

We have changed the plugs in my Echo and it is still miss firing please help. No engine lights have come on

Check the spark plug wires, coil packs or cap & rotor whichever the vehicle is equipped with. Most likely you have a bad wire or coil/cap/rotor. Also check the timing if it is out of adjustment it will cause the engine to misfire.

I have a car in the shop right now same thing - it is being caused by a misfire. Need a real technition to diagnose the problem (auto zone - advance auto can't diagnose the problem - only read the code)
mine was caused by a failing fuel injector. good luck
