Question about 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe
When opening the doors the interior lights do not come on. They do come on when the override button is pushed.
Hi! Further to my collegues advice I would be looking at the interior light switch on the light itself. There should be three positions, 1 lights on permanently, 2 lights on door open and finally 3 lights off completly.
Also make sure the driver and passenger door switches located round the perimeter are all clean and not corroded or stuck in.
There you are another problem Fix~Ya'd.

The over ride button is to turn the lights off just use and when the lights are on see if the lights go off when the door is shut. could be that the dash dimmer switch is turned up all the way causing the lights to stay on even if door is closed so adjust it down then shut door and see what happends.

Next to the round exterior light switch is a switch that controls the brightness of the interior dome lights. You can push (detent) that button in and it will pop out to make it easier to brighten/dim those lights. The tricky part is that the switch for making the dome lights illuminate when you enter/exit the vehicle is actually the top half of the backplate of the dome brightness switch. It says "dome off" on the upper portion of the backplate. That one inch area - that barely depresses - is actually the switch to make the dome lights work with the door operation. Try pressing it and then opening your door. It should work. Good Luck!

Testimonial: "Thanks so much,,My son helped me with htis and now they work "
The door switch needs to be looked at, possibly worn out, check other doors, if they work, then the driver door switch needs to be replaced.

check your light dimmer & see if you have it set all the way down.If it's anything like my 99WJ it has an off setting when the dimmer is set all the down causing the interior lights to not come on when you open the doors, hope this helps

This is a short on the dome lamp assembly. It is possible that the ground wire from the dome to switches is short.
remove assembly and check.
