Question about 2005 Chevrolet Malibu

What is making a rattle noise in the front?

My car makes an awful rattling noise in the left lower front, it sounds like something is about to fall off, you can especially hear it when you hit a bump or go down a dirt road. Its been in the shop for 3 wks, and nobody can figure out whats going on, we've had the intermediate shaft replaced, struts and strut mounts replaced, tie rod end links replaced and still its rattling. The mechanic said the suspension was all tight nothing was loose, the only thing that made a little noise was the motor mount, he was going to replace that, but we stopped him before we spent more money and nothing got fixed. My husband's a mechanic also and he didn't think it was the motor mount either, but he can't figure out whats ratteling. What is your suggestion, its driving us crazy?

I talked to my brother in law, and is wife had a malibu a few years ago, they bought it new, and he told me after awhile it started making that ratteling noise like that. They took it everywhere and nobody could figure out what it was, then chevy told him it was the brake calipers making noise, and its always on the left side, and there was nothing that could be done about it. They will always be that way, so maybe thats what my problem is. We're just going to leave it alone and not spend anymore money. They told me the suspension was all tight and nothing's going to fall off, its just annoying.

Check all the bushings and make sure they are not loose. General Motors bushings are prone to cracking.

When you changed out the struts, did you also replace the Strut Bearing Mounts that mount the struts to the strut towers on the car? These things are notorious for making the rattling sound.

HVAC is making rattling noise

Your fan that is attached to your blowermotor is loose, causing the rattle, or the bearings in your blower motor are bad, causing the shaft and fan both to rattle.

My 2004 Prius has a rattling metallic sound on acceleration. It is coming from the top of the engine on the passenger side. Does anyone know what this can be?

Does the car make this sound when the car has just been turned off and engine is still hot? Lightly push the car back and forth while it's in park. Does it still make that sound?

Awful rattling noise when reversing and turning

you are right about the bearing going to bits, it is called a CV joint. it allows the driveshafts to the front wheels to flex as you turn left or right and one is coming apart if one is going bad the other side will too soon, get them both replaced. If you don't, when it breaks completely it will cause MUCH more damage

2006 Dodge Charger front end rattle and noise. I have replaced both ball joints and lower conrtol arms which had loose ball joints. Still have a suspension front end rattle but the steering is tight...

Look at the brakwe strut arms that connect to the lower control arms and the cross member below tghe radiator. Also if it happens while making turns left or right into a driveway (knocking type noise , look at the sealed wheel bearings. I had this ande water waqs getting into the bearing through the dust cap

Front suspension noise-dull rattle-thumping sound,bumpy roads

look at the front lower engine mount. I had similar noise which has been driving me nuts, thought may be thesway bar links, put it on friends hoist and saw that the front engine mount (mounted to bottom of lower radiator support) was cracked and the rubber bushing inside very worn with pieces missing. odd thing is that reving, or putting into gear never caused it to make a noise, just certain bumps. I ordered part from Autozone, hopefully it gets here before the holiday week end is over.
Good luck

What part is located in the front of the engine between the engine head and the radiator, it is making a rattling sound at high idle

lots of parts, alternator, water pump, a/c compressor lower area . many of them are on the serpentine belt. the pulleys and tensioner can make rattles. you need to confirm which part has the rattle or vibration, use a stick or screw driver. touch one end on the part and the other near your temple...any noise/vibration coming through?

fiind which one it is. lower noise on the crank can also sound like its coming from up front and that's a deep rattle.

My 1992 Honda Accord EX-R makes a clunking/rattling sound...

It's probably your cv (constant velocity) joint. Jack up the honda and put it on safety stands, look at the area behind the center of both front wheels, there is a rubber boot. This boot protects the cv joint from dirt, road grime, water, salt, etc. If you see splits in it or grease on the boot, it has deteriorated, and is letting contaniments in. The damage has already been done if it makes a rattling noise going around corners at slow speed. I changed both cv joints (purchased rebuilt axles for $49 each) in my 92, but it is a big job labor wise. There's a lot to take apart to remove the axles.
