The car started, is it possible to bent the valve if the timing belt installed incorrectly? How can you tell if valve is bent?

Yes, it is. Without removing the valve cover it could be very hard to tell if a valve is bent, although if that is the case, the engine will normally run rough.

If the car didn't start after the timing belt replacement, it is highly possible the timing was not reset correctly, causing a valve to be bent by the piston, and pushed into the spark plug.

SOURCE: 1997AudiA6Quatro2.8L-aligning cam and crankshaft for timing belt

You must find the cam lock bar and crank lock pin to do this job properly, otherwise you can bend some valves and that becomes expensive..the front crank damper has a mark to line up with a mark on the timing cover for #1 TDC, but the cam lock bar is what aligns the cams into position. The crank lock pin is helpful but not 100% necessary...

SOURCE: changed timing belt on my 99 ford escort zx2 car no

if you have a no spark scenario i would check your crank sensor located at the top left side of the harmonic balance pulley.the crankshaft (about 11'oclock) a 2 wire plug with a sensor on it check to see if it is damaged or unsecured. this sensor can cause no spark if not working correctly. This sensor is based of frequency not voltage testing is difficult, just make sure that there isnt too muck air gap. and that it is secured.Lastly may want to check timing possible that the belt has jumped some teeth and she has fallen out of timing. maybe a bad tensioner The coil will adapt i think up to 10 degree, ****** or advance. Good luck

1993 chevy s10 blazer wont start turns over, changed fuel pump and brain

The first thing I would check is you are getting both spark and fuel at the cylinders. Remove one spark plug at a time and connect to it's plug wire while holding the end of the plug against a solid ground. Have someone crank the engine. If you see a good spark in the spark plug gap I would then make sure you have fuel at the cylinders. Cranking the engine for a bit. Then pull each spark plug out and check that fuel is on the end of the plug. If you have both fuel and spark at the cylinders I would look more at such things as timing belts, sensors, etc.

Car will not start, but will crank. If timing belt is bad will cranking damage the engine. Can car be towed if transmission is in neutral.

Hi:
Most honda engines are interference engines. This means that the valves will hit the piston if the timing belt breaks . You can tow the car in neutral for a short tow, but if you are going really far with it, I would rent a car dolly or a trailer!

Changed timing belt - won't start could i be 180

an easy way of checking if your timing is right, is to take off your rocker cover and turn the cam shaft until the cam lobes on no.1 cylinder are pointing straight up this means that the valves for no.1 are completely closed, now remove no. 1 spark plug put a long screw driver into the plug hole resting on the crown of the piston, now rotate the crank shaft and watch the screw driver rise to its highest point before its start to drop again, this called top dead centre ,now check your timing marks to see if they are alright or just refit belt using this method and u will be a 100%

You may have a broken timing belt the oil in the cylinder is not a good sign, it may mean you have a bent valve or bad valve guide seals and the worst thing would be the piston rings are broken or worn out. To test the cylinder that has oil in it you would want to put that cylinder where the piston is at the top of it's stroke, using a straw put it in the plug hole and move the crank with a ratchet and socket and turn it till the straw is all the way up. Put air into the spark plug hole after removing the oil filler plug and the air cleaner, if you here air coming out of the carburetor then it's a bad intake valve. If it comes out the oil hole then you have bad rings, if it comes out the exhaust pipe then it's the exhaust valve. If you test it and this happens you want to remove the timing chain cover and look to see if the belt is broken or not, if it's the belt then replace the belt but I don't remember if it's a close tolerance engine or not, that means that if the timing belt breaks the valves won't hit the pistons while engine is cranking over, also pull the distributor cap off and crank the engine over look to see if the rotor turns, if it does not then it's the belt or the distributor shaft pin that has broken. Hope this helps. If you need more assistance as to what it cost to fix let me know by posting here.

Timing belt broke changed it engine is missing. could it be

The easiest way to test this is to carry out a compression test. This test will determine if any valves are bent. The test is very easy to carry out. 1.obtain a compression tester. 2. remove all spark plugs. 3. screw tester into spark plug hole. 4. with your foot on the accelarator, crank engine. 5. read the tester reading and write it down. eg. cyl 1 175psi cyl.2 170psi etc. if you have a bent valve one cylinder will be very low compared to the rest.
