If the chain in the transfer case broke, they don't fall off, you would know. It would make the noise all the time. The noise your hearing is most likley from the transmission. If you have the 2.5L engine you have an ax5 transmission, the 4.0L came with an ax15. Both transmissions work basicly the same. Gears 1-2 share a shift fork, so do 3-4. I would guess that you have'nt got to 5th gear. There is most likley a problem with the shift fork or the gear synchronizer. You cant be sure till you open it up. The hardest part about working on transmissions is getting over the fear of working on transmissions. I have been fixing cars for about twelve year now and still get a kick out of good mechanics who are afraid of transmissions. If your a farly handy person, its not that hard to take the top off and look. Buy a shop manual and remove the shift lever and the cover under it. The shift forks will come out with the cover, and the rings that they attach to in the transmission are the synchronizer's. If you get that far you'll figure out whats wrong. Bad synchronizer's mean the tranny's coming out. Hope this helps.

You need an oil graded SAE 75W-90, this is available in Synthetic also. It depends on what you require.

The standard SAE 75W-90 gear oil is a multipurpose gear oil and works perfectly well without being synthetic

You don't say what vehicle it is so its difficult to say. Explain all the detail you can. What you have done or not done, what noises it makes if any, and a better explanation of what it does.

I have a 90 jeep wrangler, 4cyl and 5 speed transmission, when i accelerate in any of the gears, it makes a popping noise and the second it makes that noise it seems like the jeep stops pulling, if you...

It sounds like it is the throw out bearing. From your description of the vehicle not pulling its weight, it is going to need a clutch. The throw out bearing will come in most clutch kits, so when you replace the clutch you can replace the throw out bearing, pressure plate, and pilot bushing.

Winding noise in gear 1 ,automatic 1998 40l jeep wrangler

Your post is extremely difficult to understand...If I am reading it correctly, you have an internal whining noise from your automatic transmission. If so, the unit will need to be rebuilt. Likely the problem will continue to worsen 'till eventually it stops working.
Similar noise can also come from inside your transfer case. I'd check fluid levels in both before doing anything further, and get a second opinion before jumping right into any repair work.

No hi gears making jumped chain noise/ 90's wrangler 5spd 4x4

There is pretty much nothing you can do without removing trans & transfer case to repair this (everything is inside). Your best option is likely to have a good trans shop look at it. As long as driveshafts are connected, the best you can do is take a long bar, broomstick etc and use it as a long "stethescope" to find the source of the noise.(without actually being under the vehicle where you may get injured if it decides to jump foreward.)

1988 90 Quattro transmission

Most likely a one of the two shafts that carry the gears in the inside of the gear box has fallen down. The cause of this, is the bearing at the front of the shaft has worn out and the shaft dropped. The gears are unable to mesh anymore.
