Weak fuel pump or low fuel pressure.With the key on engine off it should be 60-66 psi.

97 Grand am v6 up & down idle. Driving =steady acceleration. I've changed, O2 sensor, throttle positioning sensor. Scan is still saying Random misfires? Get warm won't start.


P0300 Random misfire - lean condition , vacuum leak , low fuel pressure , fuel filter plugged partially , mass air flow sensor .
If the misfire is random, check for the following conditions:

System Grounds: Ensure all connections are clean and properly tightened.

MAF: A Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor output that causes the PCM to sense a lower than normal air flow will cause a lean condition.

Hi, your mechanic did the right thing. The lean condition is not a sensor issue. You need to look for a vacuum leak to solve the new issue.

Could be a number of things, good place to start is attempt to clean MAF sensor and then check for vacuum leaks or kinks in the vacuum lines. Then check fuel delivery system (fuel filter and lines).
Lean condition means there is not enough fuel being added to the mixture during burn.

Possible Causes:


Test for fuel contamination. Small amounts of water can be delivered to the fuel injectors and cause a lean exhaust indication. A lean exhaust indication can also be caused by too much alcohol in the fuel. before 1996 they use onboard diagnosis system for jeep.

when you turn on key you need to count check engine light blinks.

here are codes taken from internet.

Try some injector cleaner in order to see if the lean condition improves. Lean conditions can sometimes be caused by o2 sensors or other sensors that are not within specifications.

Lean running condition A lean running condition means that the air/fuel mixture is unbalanced, and that the engine is getting either too much air, not enough fuel, or a combination of both. Optimally, this ratio should be around 14.7 parts air to 1 part fuel by mass, at low or cruising loads. This ratio is known as stoichiometric for gasoline. Ideally, at WOT, you should aim between 11.5:1 (Rich best torque at WOT) and 13.3:1 (Lean best torque at WOT).
Running lean, like having your spark timing too advanced, creates much more heat during the combustion process. This can lead to piston seizure, a hole in the piston, melted spark plug electrode or other complications due to overheating. You will not be producing peak power, and your exhaust will also emit more oxides of nitrogen, arguably one of the worst byproducts of gasoline combustion for our environment.
Common causes of a lean running condition are an improperly tuned carburetor, clogged fuel line, clogged fuel filter, or a vacuum leak.
Preforming a plug chop is a good way to find out if your engine is running too lean, as you will see a powdery white residue on your spark plug in the presence of a lean condition.
On the other end of the spectrum, richer ratios will also cause lost power, however this will most likely be accompanied by black smoke (around the 9:1 fuel/air ratio area), and fouled spark plugs.
