Question about Cars & Trucks

Open Question

Have a renault rx4, bought it with a faulty dephaser, bought a new cam belt kit and pulley. Changed the pulley and the belts and now on running to 2500 the engine starts kicking. Not sure what the issue is or if it might be a faulty renault dephaser. Any ideas?

SOURCE: belt noise when first starting engine

Don't use a "belt dressing"...

There may be oil or other substance on the pulleys.
Remove belt and clean all pulleys .. inspect belt for contamination from those pulleys.

That should do it!

SOURCE: I have replaced the timing belt but it keeps

It's not the tensioner pulley. It's the tensioner itself. The spring on the inside has become weak allowing the belt tension to move it just off of "square" to the engine do it's acting like a cone. Smaller on one end than the other. The belt wants to drift towards the smaller end and comes off. Think of it as your arm with a glass of water in your hand extended out in front of you. At first you can hold the glass of water just fine...but after awhile your arm gets tired of holding it there. What happens?

I have a 2001 Renault laguna 2 1.8 16v and the timing belt has broken, it has got too many marks on the wheel so I don't know how to allign them could you please help me out?

You can google the part and it will show you what you are asking about. To my knowledge there should be a dot on the wheel for you to start from and on the belt or else it doesn't matter where you place the belt just be sure the cam gears are lined up.

How to change a auxiliary belt without using a auto tensioner on renault kangoo 1.9 diesel cars

you have to have serpentine belt tool kit. and do not have to buy one unless you want one, most auto parts have loaner tools you have to have a credit card to secure the cost of replace in case you loose a part or you do not return it, then they charge your credit.

you need that tool to release the tension on the belt, it is not possible to not do without that tool, i tried doing that i tried for 5-6 hours without any luck. i went down to auto store got the tool and we got done in 15 minutes.
take it from me it not worth all that waist of time and energy just get the tool. its fast and simple.

thank you rod

I have a renault megane 1.6 2004 ,i have just changed the cam belt water pump ,now the car is not accelerating , and is saying check injection . pedal sensor and throtle valve have been changed , made

Did you put the new cambelt onto the cogs correctly, did you clamp the position of all the pulleys while you removed the old belt and put on the new one? if not, the cam belt will need re-aligning.

How to fit cam belt to renault megane 1.5 dynamique diesel 2004

not difficult with the right equipment ,firstly you will need a special tool to lock the crankshaft in place ,then another special tool than aligns the tdc this goes through the cylinder block at the front right hand side by taking a bolt out in the block thats just in front of the bell housing .The special tools cost an arm and a leg trust me and then the pulley bolt has to be pulled up to 130lbs ,the bottom pulley does not have a keyway so without the right tools its very easy to let the engine turn and clout the valves which breaks the camshaft bearing caps with relative ease .the kit you need can be bought and its kit number AST4390 plus the locking pieces for the flywheel .This is not a weekend mechanic type job ,yes its easy with the right tools but even myself will slacken tensioner and remove the cam before i start so valves cannot catch when i turn engine over on starter with a big bar on the pulley nut ,then change the belt then with assistant holding a snap on heel bar in the flywheel ring gear whilst i hammer the bottom pulley bolt with the air wrench ,then use the 80cm knuckle bar and have a good grunch to make sure its really tight or it WILL TURN and the valves hit and break and imbed themselves in the pistons and smash the cam bearing caps .This is not a job for the faint hearted ,their is a timing mark on the flywheel looking from the top through a elongated hole and TDC is a longer tooth ,the inspection slot is about 3cms down from the crank sensor

Is fixing the alternator belt on a renault scenic an easy job?

No timing involved with the belt. Something caused it to come off if didn't break one of the pulleys it runs on can be locked up or worn so that it wobbles. Water pump pulley is most common cause of trouble.

51 plate 1.8 16v petrol, aux belt shredded and wrapped itself under cam belt for second time in 3 years ! EVERY VALVE BENT

you need to have the timing gears changed and have the mechanic check end play on the crank shaft and the end play on the cam and check the tensioner pulley for wear. If these are ok then you will need to see if it's a bad belt, Never use after market parts for timing belts use factory parts so it will last longer. This is a common thing for a mechanic to forget to check when replacing the timing belt. Hope this helps and thanks for using Fix-ya.
