My 2006 Nissan Xterra (Off-Road, 4.0L Engine) is running lean, causing a CES and P0430 (Bank B Cat Underperformance). I don't believe it is the cat itself (I passed emissions and the

Put in a tank of rich fuel and injector cleaner (the cheap **** from the gas station), the light stayed off for a few weeks - and vehicle also passed emissions. Light just returned with the same Cat code (P0430). Engine is running lean, I've checked for air leaks with a smoke machine, couldn't find anything.

    Clarification: Rich fuel meaning Premium (91), and the cheap stuff (I can't believe it stars out the c-word!) I was referencing was the injector cleaner - can't remember the brand, but it was one of those approx. $3 injector cleaner additives that you get from the gas station. Also, checked the vacuum lines with smoke machine - also didn't see anything that indicated a problem with the gaskets.

SOURCE: P0430 code

Your pre-cat is designed to scrub the exhaust before it reaches the larger catalytic converters, and until you replace that your problem will still come back. Try buying one in good shape from a salvage yard before blowing $500 on a new one.

SOURCE: i have a 01 nissan sentra gxe, the code came up

Here are the most common problems,

Air leaks at the exhaust manifold or in the exhaust pipes. Catalytic converter is damaged, contaminated or has failed. Front HO2S or rear HO2S is contaminated with fuel or moisture. Front HO2S and/or the rear HO2S is loose in the mounting hole. Front HO2S older (aged) than the rear HO2S (HO2S is lazy)

Your vehicle’s computer system2_bing.gif has self-testing capability. When the computer senses that there is a problem with one of the components or sensors it stores the correspondent trouble code(s) in its memory and lights up the "Check Engine" or "Service Engine Soon" light to tell you that there is a problem and you need to diagnosed and repaired it. Autozone turning the light off does nothing for you, and is against their company policy. If you do not have the proper tool, reference materials or experience I would take it to a professional. Finding out the trouble code is just he start of the diagnosis process.

2004 nissan xterra run great for 12 miles then misfiring,cnt get over 45 miles an hour. codes p 0733,p0420,p0430,p0328 comes up. new wires,new cap,rotor spark plugs 6 months old timming belt 6 months...

code p0733 refers to gear 3 -incorrect ration===causes---wiring---TR sensor/switch--shift solenoids---transmission mechanical fault
code p0420 refers to catalytic converter system -bank 1---efficiency below threshold===causes--cat converter--wiring--HO2s 2
code po430 refers to cat converter system bank 2--efficiency below threshold===causes--cat converter--wiring ---HO2s 2
code p0328 refers to knock sensor (KS) 1 bank 1--high input===causes--wiring short to positive--KS incorrectly tightened--KS---ECM

basically replace the cat converters as they are blocking the exhaust system and preventing your over 45mph problem
replace the TR sensor/ switch as you have not mentioned a transmission problem
Rectify the problem with the KS as it controls the air/fuel mixture setting which contributes to the car getting hot.

Codes 0171 0174, 0316,0430

code p0171 refers to system too lean bank 1 causes---intake exhaust leak--- AIR system----MAF?VAF sensor fuel pressure/ pump injectors HO2S
code p0174 refers to System to lean bank 2 causes the same except Maf and vaf are not mentioned and hose connections are added
code p0316 refers to misfire detected at star up first 1000 revs causes ---engine mechanicval fault---wiring---ignition/ fuel system--injector
code p0430 refers to cat convertersystem bank 2-- effeciency below threshold causes ----cat converter--- wiring ----HO2S. Personally I would chewck the cat converter first as if it is blocking the exhaust system the ret of the sensors will have irregular readings.

2006 Nissan Xterra shows service engine soon. Checked provided code p0430. What does this means? Help

The code means the O2 sensors are telling the computer the catalytic converter on bank two is not working correctly.
The problem could be one of the sensors or the cat.
You would need someone with a scanner watch the readings from the sensors and probably check the exhaust temp before and after the cat.

I'm trying to locate the bank 1 oxygen sensor for a 2005 Nissan xterra

If you have the V6 engine, then bank 1 is on the passenger side. Sensor 1 is between the engine and the catalytic converter, sensor 2 is after the cat.

SES light on code P0171, 2005 Xterra, what to do??

P0171 is a lean oxygen sensor code for bank 1 on your engine.
It indicates that there is a lean condition (engine not getting enough
fuel or getting too much air) on that side of your engine.
Bank 1 is always the side of the engine where #1 cylinder is
located. In your case it is front-most cylinder on the right side
of the engine. (As viewed from the driver's seat)
So bank one is the passenger side.

If there are any other engine control codes, you need to fix those
first, as they may be the cause of the lean condition.

If that is the only code you are getting, then diagnostic testing
needs to be performed to determine the actual cause of the problem.

Possible causes are:

* Intake air / vacuum leaks
* Faulty / dirty fuel injector(s)
* Incorrect fuel pressure (Likely to cause both P0171 and P0174 at the same time)
* Low fuel volume (Pressure OK) (restricted fuel filter,etc.)
* Fauly Mass Airflow Sensor
* incorrect PCV hose connection
* Exhaust gas leaks
* Faulty Air Fuel Ratio Sensor
