How do I fix the codes on a 1996 nissan maxima?

I'm looking to buy a car and the owner says it has a couple codes or problems with it. It's got the P0500, P0600 and P1447 code. I need help on what things to look for, if I should buy any parts, if I can do any adjustments, anything. I'm not too knowledgeable about cars so I wouldn't know what to look for.

Code p 0500 is the VSS ( vehicle speed sensor)
code p 0600 is the CAN bus--malfunction
code p 1447 is the EVAP system
the car is 21 years old and there will be more problems that what you have been told about
The price that you would expect to pay is junk yard value and anything else would be a bottomless money pit for you

SOURCE: code P1400 on a 1997 nissan maxima. help car wont pass inspection

P1400 on your vehicle is described as :Differential Pressure Feedback EGR Circuit Low Input You either need a new DPFE valve, or a new EGR valve. Both can be tested for functionality before replacing them both. EGR valve is more likely I think. Cleaning it may not improve its performance, but its worth a try. Also check the vacuum lines between the DPFE and EGR system. The EGR valve and DPFE are usually close together above the exhaust manifold/downpipe. you need service instructions to test these items, suggest you go to a garage really...

SOURCE: 1996 nissan maxima check engine

Firstly, the code p1445 is actually an EVAP Canister Purge Control Valve...The most common problem is a failure of the valve itself, which is located at the top of the plenum chamber. Nissan offers a replacement valve with new bracket and hoses. It is around the $150-$200.00 mark.

But, remember to test the component (valve) first as this suggestion is just to the common problem, but in rare cases, it might be PCM related (water entry, shock etc)

Secondly, the p0500 code is a speed sensor and you can pick these up from autozone.....it provides the road speed for the speedometer and odometer..........if these are working fine, then you might have a wiring issue.

As these are 2 seperate systems, I doubt that they are related.

I hope this helps

How to fix problem for code # po 441 for 1996 nissan maxima

Hi there:
This indicates that a part of the EVAP control system is no longer functioning correctly. The EVAP system consists of many parts, including (but not limited to) the gas cap, fuel lines, carbon canister, purge valve, and other hoses. The (EVAP) emission control system prevents the escape of fuel vapors from a vehicle's fuel system. Fuel vapors are routed by hoses to a charcoal canister for storage. Later, when the engine is running a purge control valve opens allowing intake vacuum to siphon the fuel vapors into the engine.

I suggest replacing the gas cap with preferably one from the Nissan dealer, or OEM equivalent, then clear these codes by disconnecting the negative battery cable for about a minute then drive it normally; if the codes come back, this may take a couple of days, you most likely have to have the system tested for leaks.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

How do I install rear side light of 2000 Maxima passenger side

I do not have an Owner's Manual for a 2000 Nissan Maxima handy, but MOST Nissan Owner's manuals have instructions on how to replace lights. I would try looking there first.

What battery would you suggest for my 1996 Maxima. I live in northern Mass.

The best batteries I've had (and the only ones I buy) are Optima deep-cycle (dry cell) batteries. The red-top battery is great for us who live in the northeast, with the cold of winter. They have 900 crank amps, recover very quickly from a discharge, and last a long time.
