See if you can locate fuel pump relay (check owners manual) either inside under dash or under hood. When you pull the right one, you'll know.

Electricity is not reaching fuel pump. Wiring is fine. 1990 F350 4.9 Emgine Automatic transmission

the power relay activates the PCM, engine computer. The PCM activates the fuel pump relay that turns on the fuel pump with key ON. It runs for 5 seconds, then it shuts off, unless the engine starts. Can you hear the pump run (hum) in th fuel tank when key is turned ON?

Also, reset the inertia switch in case it tripped. Owner's manual will tell you where it is. Rest is pressing the buton.

Is there a fuel pump relay and where is it at if so think the fuel pump is bad will turn over but not fire

The fuel pump relay is located behind the glove box. First you need to see if the fuel pump is actually running. Open the fuel filler door and remove the fuel cap. Have someone turn on the ignition key without trying to start the engine. Put your ear close the the filler neck and listen carefully. You should hear the fuel pump hum for a few seconds and then shut off. If not then check the fuse first. If it is good check the relay. If both are good then the pump needs replacing.

I shut the engine off. tried restarting, failed to do so, seems like not getting fuel. Is there a fuse for the fuel pump. It was on empty and I did add 1.5 ga gas

When you shut the engine off then it was not out of gas and there is a fuel fuse in the fuse panel and a fuse relay in the engine compartment. The fuse and relay box is always near the battery. It sounds like by the information I gathered so far is the fuel pump was sucking most of bottom gas which is always dirty gas and probably plugged the fuel filter. Make sure the to have someone listen if the fuel pump works by listening under the fuel tank while the ignition is turned on but not the starter.
1. Listen for a humming noise near the tank while someone turns the key on.
2. If the fuel pump makes is on then its your fuel filter.
3. If no sound then its your fuel pump. Start with the fuses then your relays and if they are all in working then its time to change your fuel pump.
( note: sometimes its just the way the car is sitting and tilting where all the fuel is unreachable for the pump and you might have to put more gas.) Hope this works. Cam

1992 Ford thunderbird turns over but wont start, fuel pump wont shut off

Sounds like the relay located in the trunk behind the driver side carpet panel is sticking on. Contacts are burnt and causing fuel pump to keep running. Tap relay with a screwdriver handle and if it starts, replace the relay.

Check the fuel pump relay connections, the Explorer is bad about connection corrosion at the relays, try unplugging it and sticking it back in. Hope this help, let me know.

Car turns on for 5 to 8 seconds and turns off will not stay on?

You will need a new fuel pump relay to keep the engine running. The prime switch for the fuel pump operates fine for it starts the engine and once the oil pressure is up to snuff the computer shuts the prime switch off and turns on the fuel pump relay till you shut the engine off

My car will turn over, but will not start? is it my fuel pump and i keep hearing about all these temporary fix

Many problems could cause this. Fuel pump relay? Do you hear your fuel pump pump momentarily when you turn the key on (not to start, just 'on')? It should hum for about 5-7 seconds then shut off. If you don't hear anything, get either the pump or the relay looked at.
Crank sensor working? Or any part of the ignition system working? Check this by pulling one spark plug wire, sticking an old spark plug into it and laying the plug onto some metal on the car. Anywhere will do. Have someone crank the car while you look for a tiny spark in the plug WITHOUT TOUCHING THE SPARK PLUG!!!. See one? If so, ignition is (most probably) working.
Did the car stop working suddenly? It is either ignition or the pump system. If not that, it is your computer, or a sensor. Run engine codes to see if it recorded any errant readings from any one of the sensors.
