The easiest way to do it would be loosen the transmission oil pan bolts on one side of the pan and work your way around each side of the pan working from one corner. As you work your way around fluid will start to leak from the initial corner. Let the fluid leak out until it is down to the level of the pan. Hold the pan up and finish removing the remaining bolts and then dump remaining fluid still in the pan. Change the fluid filter while you have the pan off and clean the pan and gasket surface and re-install the pan using a new gasket. Then fill with clean fluid and you are good to go.
if you changed the trans oil pan and used a gasket it probably will leak ,most dodges use mopar atf-rtv sealer available at the dealer for the trans pan,,if it is leaking between the trans and tcase you will have to determine which unit is leaking fluid and replace the seal and gasket between them you can put oil dye in the tcase fluid and run it and use a dye light to see if the fluid leaking has dye in it and if not then it is the trans
Hi, it sounds like the leak is coming from the torque converter seal. when the engine is running the converter is spinning and keeping it from leaking. check the front of the trans and inside of the inspection cover.
If it is trans fluid the cooler inside your radiator must have a leek. Yes it is possible for it to get itno the trans. Check to see if the fluid is milky.
The problem here is did he put the right transmission fluid in when he changed it? Changing the trans oil is no problem but if he put the wrong oil in you are going to have major problems because you are damaging your transmission everytime you use it. You will need to check the operator handbook in your glove compartment for the correct type of oil or take the vehicle to a transmission shop where they can change the oil and filter.
Is it a manual or automatic trans?If it's auto trans,there will be a dipstick tube near the firewall on the passenger side.You fill the trans through the dipstick tube with a funnel.Careful not to overfill.If it's a manual trans,there will be a plug halfway up the side of the trans.Remove the plug & fill till it starts to leak out the plug hole.Be sure to use the recommended fluid in either case.Good luck, ChevRev
Unfortunately Discoveries will always eventually leak some fluid, People who say theirs do not leak have just not found the problem yet. I just traded a 2003 for a new vehicle. First the power steering can and does leak but since the fluid capacity is not that much, if you have a continous leak and the power steering still works it is probably not the leak you need to address. also the plastic splash guard makes it difficult to identify leaks easily. My 2003 discovery was leaking for a while the leak was from the auto trans cooler. Check the leak colour, white paper under car, red fluid will be the trans fluid, The power steering fluid in the car is a special fluid (not trans fluid) if the correct fluid would be a greenish colour. Other than this oil leaks can be plentiful.
