SOURCE: ford auto locking hubs

you can convert auto to manual hubs warn hubs or milemarker makes good hubs. As far as lift a suspension lift is better. This really depends on what you want to do with truck. I had a 97 f250 diesel 4x4 and put front leving springs on it and new poly spring bushings and was able to clear 35" tires on factory wheels. The best exhaust upgrade is going to be a new down pipe from turbo to exhaust as far as straight pipe or muffler it depends on personal preference

SOURCE: 98 Ford F-150 2WD rear axle removel

The Ford is similar to the Chevy. Same procedures apply. Same retaining bolt in center section needs to be removed to allow cross shaft to come out. Same technique in removing spider gears. Same "C-clip" retainers on axle ends. you shouldn't have any issues.

SOURCE: 2004 Ford F-150 extended cab FX4. 4WD problem

Your front hubs are automatic locking hubs, and the gears are hard nylon. These hubs break very easily, therefore causing you to lose your front wheel drive in 4 high, or 4 low. If you replace the hubs with "WARN (name brand) " manual locking hubs, you will never have the issue again. Of course, you will have to get out of the truck and manually lock the hubs, but they are metal gears, and much more durable. I've personally seen the issue several times, and changing the hubs has resolved the issue every time.

Manual hubs not locking

They probably need cleaned as grease gets hard over time. Disassemble the locks, clean them, put back with new grease. I suggest replacing the crappy ford locks with locks made by warn, they are bulletproof. check out this video, its great!

HOW DO I REMOVE A LOCKING HUB ON A 1994 FORD I DONT KNOW HOW

you need a special 4 point socked to remove & reinstall the bearing retainer locking ring. any good parts shop can sell you one.
note: reinstallation & bearing pre-loading is done with the same socket & a torque wrench.
buy the Haynes manual for your make & model vehicle, all the knowledge you need is in there.

The malfunctioning part in my case is what ford calls the "integrated wheel end" which locs the weel hub on the four wheel drive in or out as need. Part is available from Ford and cost about $110.00. I will do this repair myself.

I engage the four wheel drive in my 2005 Ford F-150 when we had a snow storm this week. Now when switching out of fourwheel drive the transmission wines until you switch it back to fourwheel drive...

the four wheel drive uses vacuum hub locks. there is a vacuum solenoid on the passenger firewall in front of the battery box. sounds like you need a updated solenoid and possibly one or both hub locks. what happens is the old style solenoid vent allows water to get in and the hub locks freeze or stop working because of the water. the new style has a cover over the vent to prevent water from getting in.

1988 Mustang 5.0 wiring

for the most part when you put the engine back the wires will lay back where they need to go and that will help you most plugs are not interchangeable but some sensors are if you can take a peek at one to get a idea of how to start the wires then it will be easier. As best I can remember the larger bundle runs down the passenger side of the engine intake
