Question about 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer

1 Answer

2004 Lancer Road Handling

I have a used Lancer which I got at 80,000 Kms Now it is 1,00,000 Kms. The problem is When I take a turn and if I am fast the car tail slides out. It has happened when making a regular sharp turn at slightly above normal speed. I tried same with my friend's car whose tyres squeal under similar condition but no slide. His is on Dunlop mine is on Yokohama.

How bad are the tires ??
that's usually the problem, also the weight in the back counts, your back end is lighter that the front and some cars just don't have the grip needed.
but check the tires

Have an 04 lancer. Oil light comes on sometimes just flickers, but only after warmed up and at an idle. driving down the road the light stays off. Oil never low and just changed with filters, brand new...

Replace the oil pressure sender. The sender is what is turning the warning light on.If you replace the oil pressure sender it should fix the flickering light problem. If it does not , the light is an indication of more serious motor killing problem. Fortunately, the sender is under $10 and usually fails before the actual oil pump.

When should spark plugs be changed? I have 80,000 Kilometers on the Toyota highlander and they have never been changed.

I am in Australia and so am unfamiliar with the highlander, it sort of looks like our landcruiser.
Look in your owners manual to see what type of spark plugs your car has, if thet are platinum plugs they need to be replaced every 100,000 Kms or 5 years, If they are standard plugs they require replacement every 40,000 Kms or 2 years, I hope this helps

1995 nissan maxima fishtails just bought it used is this common?

Fishtailing on a front wheel drive car is not really a common problem, no matter what make it is. The Maxima is generally a good handling car and 1995 was the first year that they used the VG30DE engine which had plenty of power. These cars performed like they had V-8's. With a front wheel drive car, when they accelerate, the drive line is pulling the car. Where ever the front goes the back follows, when you put your foot into it. NOW, if you have a tire problem where they are no longer able to hold the road, the rear will slide all over the place. If this is the case, replace the tires. 1st check the tire pressures! If your car fishtailed on a slippery road where it had just started to rain and oil commonly floats to the surface of the road in the first few minutes that it rains, you need to drive with caution. I drive an old 1981 Mercedes 300 TD wagon. When it is wet, prior to my replacing my tires, the car would slip and slide all over the place in the rain. I recently replaced my tires with a new 80,000 mile tire Cooper came out with and the ride and handling are awesome. The car sticks whether it is wet or dry and the road noise has been cut in half. I had never realized how bad my tires were until I replaced them. My tires still had a legal amount of tread but had start to crack from age. SO, to sum it up: the car in general, is an excellent car with a reasonably reliable record and few weak areas. You have made a good choice for a car.

Mitsubishi Lancer Problems

the problem with the handling may be due to a steering alignment isue our you may have a problem with the bushes in the car it may pay to take it to a suspension expert and pay to get it tested ( this dose not cost to much)
the problem with the heater control is generally in the knob it self the mechanism fails and you will need to replace it recommend going to the wreckers and acquiring one.
how many settings do you have with your blower are all of them working if not you may need to get a new fan resistor ( from mits )
of all settings are working there may be a fault in the blower unit our it may be full of leaves.
as for the air filter i recommend you go to your parts retailer and get a high flow pannal filter that fits straight into the existing housing, you will get the same benefits with out having to modify the air intake and you will not have any problems with road worthy ect.
