Fig. New head bolts are strongly recommended. Tighten the head bolts down uniformly using this sequence in several passes2RZ-FE and 3RZ-FE engines

Refer to the diagram and torque bolts in sequence as shown in 3 passes. Bolt thread should be lightly oiled. Bolt holes clean of dirt.
1st pass : 39 N.m. (29ft lb)
Make a mark on the bolt with white-out/chalk or similar in the forward facing edge of the bolt.(see diagram)
2nd pass : turn bolt through 90 degrees
3rd pass : turn bolt through a further 90 degrees.
Using a mark on the bolt makes it easier to keep track of where in the sequence you are.
