Question about Dodge Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

Have a 1998 Dodge Ram1500 and my boyfriend tried to wire a license place light into the current wiring for the stock license plate light and blew the fuse for my running lights. I replaced the fuse and he gave up trying to wire the light but now I have no stereo and no interior lights in my truck. I have checked all the fuses in the cab and under the hood and they are all good.........help please.

SOURCE: Reverse lights and license plate light dont work

Try link below, may point you in right direction, but you'll have to scroll down & find what you need. Otherwise I'd start from bumper with test light & work my way back toward front harness, after all fuses, plugs etc been checked.

SOURCE: 2001 dodge ram 1500. Brake lights do not work.

Do the taillights work? If so it might just be the bulb. If not then the wiring is broke some where or loose.

On a 98 S-10 Blazer, what should I look for to solve the problem of the plate not working. Both bulbs blew. I replaced them but they still do not work. Tail and brake lights work fine.

check for power to the bulbs with a test light on the wire for the license light.if you have power and these are grounded through the bumper then you may have a ground problem for the lights.if you don`t have power on the wire back probe the wire until you find were the break in the wire is and repair.

What is the fuse for the license plates lights

The license plate lights are usually not dedicated fused, but included with the running lights, if the other lights are working, look for bulb or wiring problems.

My brake lights work but the tail lights and license plate light don't work every time I turn on the fuse it blows I have a 1984 pontiac fiero.

Remove all bulbs on the tail lights and license plate circuit.
Replace fuse, turn on parking lamps- check if fuse blows without any lamps connected.
If it does, check for short circuit to ground on the taillight/license plate wiring.

If it doesn't blow, re-install one lamp at a time until all lights work. you may have a faulty lamp or lampsocket.

Tail Light and License Plate lights stopped working

With light switch on, test the wires leading up to the mentioned lights with a test light(cost about 5 or 6 bucks at wal-mart) that way u can eliminate any corrosion questions and get to the source quicker, if test light indicates that the wire is hot, than check connection areas for any wear and tear and possible carbon corrosion. Check lightbulbs, my license plate light stopped working and wire was hot, but wouldnt turn on due to the housing base, got too dryrotted and wouldnt function propery, had to rig it up, but works now.
