Question about 1999 Dodge Caravan
2004 Sunfire, 4 cylinder, automatic. Was driving down the road one day and ALL of my guages quit. My speedometer is stuck at 20mph, gas gauge is all the way over (not empty, the other side), same as the temp guage. Tach moves sometimes, but mostly stays at 2000 RPM.
I need to get my inspection done, so technically I have two questions. I live in Dallas, TX, can I pass inspection with the guages out? And: What might be the problem and what kind of ballpark estimate am I looking at?
Dashboard gauges have a wiring problem. Most Sunfires have these especially late models. It's a common defect. While the gauges will run fine most of the time, the primary instigator is heat. The more the car heats up inside the cabin, the more the gauges will stick. So keep the inside cool, and you'll be fine. Trying to replace with Chevrolet Cobalt gauges. I'll tell you if they work.

Try the simplest solution to a sunfire bad ground issue, connect a 4guage wire or a thickness comparable, connect it to the negative terminal and then unbolt one fender bolt and place the other end under that bolt, fixed my issue twice now. Sunfires need engineering updates every once in a while, good luck
