Is an 81 and a98 honda civic motor innerchangable

Part wise for the two engines, no. As for an engine swap, yes a 98 will fit in an 81 and other way around. But this will always include slight modifications to engine and transmission mounts. You will need to take the ECU and fuel system from the 98 . it's not an easy task.

I think your mechanic is talking about a VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor). Are you having trouble with your gauges, speedometer, or shifting points, etc...?

Overheating from leak not visible

Hook up a cooling system pressure tester. If you have a pin point leak, the pressure from the tester will shoot coolant out of the leaking area.

HOW TO RETRIEVE ECU FAULT CODES 94 HONDA CIVIC

Try a honda civic forum online or maybe autozones free auto repair information site online. Check your fuel pressure, spark, timing and air flow meter. When was the last time the car was tuned up? Check air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs, distributor cap+rotor and the ignition timing. Check for loose or corrosion around and or on contact points of wiring ( power, ground, and your spark plug wires if theres any sign of wear or corrosion.) Make sure fuel is fresh and not stale from aging over time.
