SOURCE: Ticking sound

Gm will tell you this is normal lifter noise if it from the top of the motor. It could be from the exhaust but you would hear it from under the car more. I do not care for the responce from GM but they say it is ok.

SOURCE: rattling sound in steering (at low speeds)

I sounds like you need to grease the intermediate shaft. GM sells a kit that consists of a plug and a bag of grease for around $18. It has been a few years since I bought it so the price could have went up. They also offer an update shaft for around $100. I am nearly 100% sure this is your problem. I have a 03 Yukon and have done it 3 times in 120,000 miles.

There are a few other posibilities, but they are not so cheap. The next logical problem could be the power steering pump or the valve in the gear box.

My 1998 sebring 6cyl makes a metal on metal noise on the side of my engine by the belts i tried greaseing all the pullys and i used belt noise sparay but it becomes lower and then it becomes higher ???...

sounds to me from the brief description like you have either a water pump rattling, or a timing chain coming slack. Is the noise coming from the alternator? Never grease pulleys, ever. also the stop squeak spray is bad for your belts. Don't know why they even sell it. If you listen carefully you may be able to pin point the rattle. Is this a tick tick tick, or a rattle rattle rattle? Does sound like a water pump rattle or timing chain slap though. Hope this helps

Very bad rattle noise in top of a 4.0 overhead cam .gas engine but sounds like a diesel !

Sounds like a bad timing chain probably in the passenger side rear of the head. If it the one in the front on the other side that one is not too bad but if its the one in the back on the passenger side its a big job. (have to pull the engine out of the Explorer) Its the chain that runs the cam. The guides go bad and make it rattle like a son of a gun but will still seem to run okay. Stop running it, if the chain jumps your engine is shot. At the point you are at it only needs a chain and new guides. Hope this helps good luck. If you have any more questions feel free to ask. I just did a rear chain in a 1999 overhead cam a week ago and not too many people know much about changing them or timing them.

When i drive my car it sounds like there is a screeching noise, possibly metal rubbing on metal coming from the drivers side tire area..it stops when i press my breaks though..there is also a clunking noise...

Squeeking sounds when the brake pads is almost totaly worn out. This is a factory desirng as a warning device. have the brake pads replaced @ the same time have the the other abnormal sound checked.

When stopped at light/stop sign, rattling comes

Inspect the motor mounts for cracks or breaks in the mount. Ask a friend to stand at the right front fender with the hood open while you start the car. Make sure the emergency brake is on and you block one of the rear tires in front of it and in back of it with a brick or similar solid material. Put the car in drive (1st gear for manual transmission) and with your foot on the brake pedal rev the motor for a few seconds at about 1500-1800 rpm as your friend watches for excessive left and right movement from the engine. Then do the same in reverse and have him stand on the left side and do the same. If one mount is bad it is recommended that all the engine mounts be replaced. There are usually 2 or 3 for the engine and one for the transmission.

Vibration/Rattling on right side during high speeds

I had a similar problem. The dealer change automatic transmission and differential, but the noise continu. After research on internet i think the problem is the front galiper who create a vibration on the disc wheel and the vibration frequence follow the front axle until interior car. Just press slowly the brake pedal and if the noise stop , that's it the cause i think. I dont change my galiper, but i have a new transmission . :)))

its probably your bump stops. the vw ones are very soft. i bought ford escort (the shape after the xr3) ones and cut them a little down to fit. i think the noise is either your shock touching or the sound of the tire scraping the body of the car. hope this helps.
