I have a 1993 Ford F250 with a 5.8 engine and auto trans. The check engine light came on and now it has fast idle and the trans shifts really hard. What could be wrong? Thanks.

Hi, Sounds like the engine revs are to high hence you have problems with gear change adjust the engine idler to slow tickover & problem should be solved. Please give feedback at crossflowspeed@hotmail.co.uk Thanks, Malcolm Campbell.

1998 ford explorer gearshift solenoid

Sounds sort of like an internal wear issue, that may never
be determined, even after a complete disassembly to
rebuild it.

I know that is a vague answer & not a solution or good
guess, but having once owned a trans repair shop, I would
have to show you units apart & you would see wear but
nothing related to your noise or operating issues, just the
way it is with an automatic trans

Car wont continue to run. starts but wants to die immediately. dash lights flashing & you can hear fuel pump running irregularly ie. revs then slows

If your fuel pump was bad, your car wouldn't even start. Have you checked your fuel filter or fuses? What all have you checked? Let me know.

2005 golf tdi diesel since having it serviced there is no power below 1200 rpm

the turbo only comes on at 1200,so you wouldnt feel any power as such.also there is a "no fuel" setting below 1200,so when you decelerate you save fuel.(it only allows tickover fuel in at below this engine speed).possible that the service centre reset the car settings to "factory settings"as they should.

on tickover, do the fans come on when it gets hot ? if so, the first thing to replace is the thermostat, then see if you have the same "problem".(as its the cheapest and if faulty would give the same symptoms.)
