Are connections at battery clean and tight? Also check connections/plug ins on alternator, clean/tight also? My truck was not charging last week, found plug in on alt. very dirty and some corrosion on connectors on the plug in. Cleaned up w fine sandpaper, applied dielectric grease to connection (available at parts stores to prevent corrosion)
Have the voltage regulator checked, as this may be the cause.
Last thing to try, have the battery and alternator tested, even if they are new, one may be defective. Parts stores will check them in or out of vehicle for free. Let me know how u make out.

The 1997 nissan maxama has had 4 altanaters and 4 can smell the batterys over charging. Does it have external rectifier if so where is it.

The voltage regulator and rectifiers are inside the alternator.
Grab a cheap multi-meter (even a $5 one is good enough for this) and check your voltage on the battery when the vehicle is idling. It should be around 14-14.5V. If it's 14.8 or more then your alternator's voltage regulator is not working correctly.

2000windstar havenew and good battery and new agood altanater wont charge

If the alternator was not charging before you replaced it, the problem could be a bad connection between the battery and alternator, or a problem with the computer.
The computer controls alternator output.

the alternator is definately bad, if it ran your battery dead like that, and of course as you can tell your battery is trash and needs replaced.. not sure what to tell you on how it runs, considering once it warms up it runs good.

With the engine running are you getting any voltage off the alternator? check with a multimeter. Check voltage at battery while running should be 13 volts or more.

Wat would make my altanater light come on and my car die if i donne checked tha batterie and the altanater?wat elese could it be

Well depending on how you checked them could matter. If you just checked to see if the wires were on good, than you need to do more, take a multi-meter and check if your altenator is putting out the correct voltage and amperage, then check the battery and do the same. Both are reading correctly then check your grounds

you will need to test this to be sure if its not charging then take it out and have it tested for free at autozone and get the replacement parts there also.
have the new one tested as well.
put a 12 volt test meter on the battery with the engine off.
take reading
then check reading with engine running .
take new reading.
if there the same the alt is bad.
volt should be be low 12 volts when off and should be above 12 volts when on.

keep me posted.
