Re: I want to replace powerglide with turbohydro in 66...
You can install a TH-350 pretty much bolts right in. However, you have to be careful with the tailshaft length. Both the 350 and the powerglides had long and short length tailshafts. In other words, if its the wrong length, the drive shaft wont fit.
You can also install a turbo 400, 700R4, and numerous other newer transmissions with overdrive too, but they will require electronics to make them shift wihtout a computer, and different cross members.

If that's a full size psgr car it could have a 230 6 cyl, 283 2bbl carb, 327 250 or 300 hp, 409 340, 400 or 425 hp. The 400 and 425 409's were manual trans only all others could be either manual or powerglide. The 409's in 64 had K66 transistor ignition as an option. First year for K66 in Chevrolet line, Pontiac had it in 1963. The 327 first showed in 1962 in both cars and corvettes.
sounds like the parking pinn or [pawl] Inspect the parking pawl as it is likely broken. The pawl is a metal pin that engages the transmission's gear when the transmission is in the "Park" position. The pawl manually locks the transmission's gears and is located on the interior side of the transmission's manual control linkage
Thought you had an old "slip & slide powerglide" ! I like the way they originally cursed them, then all the racers wanted them all of a sudden. Anyway, if you have the TH350, which your obviously cruising and shifting manually, just go with gear selection that sounds good to you, RPM wise. I never look at a tachometer, all by ear. The TH 350 are pretty strong too. Then of course there's always a shift kit that will make it bang into next gear & chirp tires for cruising too.
The transmission in your vehicle is a 4L30E model, manufactured by General Motors, and used in vehicles from BMW's to Cadillacs,Isuzu's and Honda's.The transmission is BASED on the old Chevette Turbo Hydramatic 180 model. The 4L30E is basically a TH180 with an overdrive unit added on.I rebuild transmissions for a living, and have seen the 4L30E over and over with the same failures, inherent weaknesses, and every transmission model has them, just in different areas. The 4L30E failures are nothing new,so don't despair.Hopefully the trans currently in your truck will be problem free.
