SOURCE: trying to locate MAF sensor

Look near your A/C system and under the overflow hose for the coolant. It is a round can looking thing with a small wiring harness attached on top. There rae 3 hex screws holding it on to the bracket. Remove these and slip it off of the air intake tube. Use a small screwdriver to depress the small latch on the inside of the harness and gently pull it off. Disassemble the MAF sensor from the mounting plate, remove it from the vehicle and spray the wires with carburetor cleaner several times. That should clean it up for you. Good luck and let me know if you need more info.

Where is the mass air flow sensor on the engine?

The MAF sensor is located on the air box cover (the part that goes over the air filter. It is screwed to the top with two tamper proof screws. If you think the MAF sensor is giving you problems don't be afraid to clean it with a MAF sensor safe cleaner. Many times MAF sensor problems can be solved with a simple cleaning.

My check engine light is on & the dtc is p0171 2005 chevy impala

I found this On-Line

Causes A code P0171 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
  • The MAF (Mass Air Flow) Sensor is dirty or faulty. Note: The use of "oiled" air filters may cause the MAF to become dirty if the filter is over-oiled. There is also an issue with some vehicles where the MAF sensors leak the silicone potting material used to protect the circuitry.
  • There could be a vacuum leak downstream of the MAF sensor.
Possible Solutions Possible solutions include:
  • In the vast majority of cases, simply cleaning the MAF sensor does the trick. Consult your service manual for it's location if you need help. I find it's best to take it off and spray it with electronics cleaner or brake cleaner. Make sure you are careful not to damage the MAF sensor, and make sure it's dry before reinstalling
  • Inspect all vacuum and PCV hoses, replace if necessary
  • Check for a dirty fuel filter and proper fuel pressure2_bing.gif

Location of the pvc valve and the maf sensor Can't find the PCV valve to change it.

The PCV valve is part of the front valve cover and in order to replace it you have to replace the valve cover.

The MAF sensor is in the air filter housing. The connector is on the top of the housing.
