I recently had the same complaint and after alot of trouble shooting I located my problem to be a wirring harnes conector on top of the engine for the injector pump moduel. The contacts looked real good however the theory is when they heat up they warp away from their mate and this activates the computor and keeps it from going into sleep mode thus draining the batteries. You could have any conector problem but I would look where the temperature changes the most. In my case I cut the conector out and soldered the wires together. My batteries seam much better now it has been 2.5 months which is a record for my batteries going dead.

SOURCE: When accelerating alternator light comes on.

Possible loose or worn alternator belt. Check the condition of the belt. If it's worn, replace it. If it's just loose, tighten it up.

has anyone thought about the regulator, i think that its built into the alt, replace it and then see if the prob continues, you can get a pass on the alt test and still have a bunk regulator

SOURCE: Batteries not charging in 83 Ford 6.9L diesel.

What is the temperature gauge doing?
Does it get to about half way, or does it barely get off cold?
If it stays fairly cold, then it is probably the thermostat jammed open and needs replacing.
The glow rail controller senses engine temperature to turn off the glow rail (about 50C).
If the glow rail stays on + short trips + winter driving with lights, defrost, heater on, lower air temperature, then the alternator cannot keep up with the glow rail staying on.

maybe the battery is getting weak. try a new one. most of the time batteries in the super duty diesels only last 2-4 years at the max. Hope this helps you! Good-Day! make sure you are getting at least 14.2 or better at battery with engine running. with engine off, at battery there should be at least 12.6 or better. less than 12 volts battery is bad.

Get the battery recharged and have the alternator tested . Voltage at battery with the car running should be 13.5-14 volts. If the battery light came on with engine running that indicates a bad alternator .NEVER remove battery cables with engine running , tests nothing and could cause ecu failure.

Firstly is this a petrol or diesel if it's a diesel it's probably the alternator pulley failure due to collapsed bushes to check this u will need to remove the intercooler to check. If it's ok get hold of a multemeter and place the rd lead on the main pwr lead on the alternator and the black lead on the body of the alternator start the engine if u have battery voltage around 12 vthen the alternator isn't charging. U should see 14vto14.5v this check will work on the petrol

Check the harness for a break at the splice about one foot back of the alternator,it's a common area of failure. If thats not it then check the fusible link that comes from the starter relay and goes to the alternator.
