Heater doesn't get warm. The fan blows cold air

I had the radiator flushed and filled; and also had the thermostat replaced, but I'm still getting cold air from the fan.

A year and Model would help. But in general you need to see if both heater hoses are equally hot. You would use your hands for this test.

Once you have established that the water is flowing through the heater core with the above test, the only other source is the ductwork under the dash.

Your blender flaps in the dash may not be moving. This can be a pain. Sometimes the controls are electic solenoids and other times the controls are simple cables or vacuum devices.

Hopefully you may only need a water valve.

The hoses from your heater core should be very hot to the touch. Check the hoses going to the core from the water pump. It should be very hot. The return hose should also be very hot. Now check the hoses going to the core. If they are not the same temp, then your heater control valve is not working correctly or the vacuum is not working. At any rate, locate the vacuum line going to the heater valve. Remove the silver bar on the valve from the plastic plunger arm. You will have heat all the time now if it was only a vacuum problem. You can fix it later when it's warmer out. BTW a 200* thermostat will make your heater even hotter.

squeeze the hoses to get any air bubbles out and refill coolant as necesary. are you sure you put thermostat in the right way? may be backwards. also may be your sensor.

airjoc does not have a clue to your problem, I take you want to have warmer air not cooler ac. check the control system, if you have a vacum system tou may have a leak, if it is controlled by voltage, check the control panel and the control box. Also open the hood, place the heater on high but not on any defrost setting preferrably on just the floor setting. Start the engine and see if the ac compressor is running. If it is, the control panel is bad.

if the thermostat is in the head at the top radiator hose , remove it an fill the cooling system until the water is at that point --refit the thermostat and continue filling
make sure that the heater is turned on so that any air is moved out of the system

How do you properly bleed the coolant system on a 1994 Toyota Celica 1.8 stx?


If even possible, it sounds as though your water
pump is not turning the right way

It isn't even moving any water & that is all
you worked on, unless the thermostat somehow
could go in backwards

Drained radiator added prestone Radiator flush refilled and started overheating, drained radiator replaced thermostat and now I get no heat from heater,Radiator water is hot


disconnect the heat hoses going into fire wall , put hose into one with pressure and flush as it sounds like it could be bloked in the heater core,the other thing that could be the problem be the hot ,cold switch as it restricts the flow to makes the heater hoter or colder , it might need tlc or replacing as it is manaul not elec

Car is over heating and the stat has been installed & radiator have been flushed,whats next


Physically look in the radiator under the cap(if one exsist's) when cool, for coolant level, and check the valve in the cap for sticking. If air is present in the radiator it can't get out, and more coolant can't get in,(from the overflow). Either clean the cap or replace it and check that it is the CORRECT cap.

If radiator is low on coolant fill it to overflowing, replace cap, and check that coolant overflow is filled to the COLD line or mark. The overflow is normally where you would add coolant. (never overfill the overflow)After refilling as outlined above, check the level every morning for 2 or 3 days until coolant level stops dropping below the cold mark and add coolant to the overflow ONLY. Do not open the radiator cap. Also, if you have even a tiny coolant leak anywhere in the system, air will get drawn in, instead of coolant from the overflow.

For more OVERHEATING PROBLEMS try these...
Radiator fins dirty, clean with a strong stream of water, not high pressure water.
Radiator clogged, try backflushing it, or replace.
Thermostat stuck open or shut, replace it.
Water pump worn out, can no longer move enough coolant, replace it.
Fan shroud broken or missing....
Electric Fan(s) not working, Check the fan, relay, fuse and engine temperature sensor's.
Belt driven fan, belt slipping, fan clutch is bad, fan blades have flattened out.

2001 chevy cavalier, was overheating and took out thermostat, let it idle then was not over heating,bought new thermostat put it in then overheated what do i do?

I keep overheating changed out thermostat and fan and still overheating I fill the hose with coolant and it all goes into the overfill tank and gets hot and boils out


A clogged radiator could be your problem. Flushing won't necessarily clean out a clogged radiator.
When it's idling and getting hot, the clutch fan should be running full on, actually "roaring" as some say, and the electric auxiliary fan or fans should be on if you have them. Also test your radiator cap, replace if needed. Hope this helps.

My 06 Grand Prix was getting hot, not overheating, but getting hot. The O2 sensor was replaced just prior to the problem, the radiator was flushed, the Thermostat was replaced, then the water pump blew...


You should make sure there is no air in the cooling system-from a cold start, let it idle until the radiator fan kicks on with the surge tank cap off-make sure the tank is fully up to level at this point, that should eliminate air in the system as a cause. If you do not have a scanner that gives live readings, get one so you can monitor the engine temp-a factory gauge is not overly accurate. Your temp when warmed up, air off should go to about 212-215 and the radiator fan should then kick on-temp should drop to about 200 and the fan should shut off-this is normal.

Over heating, replaced thermostat, still over heats, i have a 2004 dodge stratus, 2.4L DHOC


After changing the thermostat, did you fill it with 50/50 antifreeze to water?

Is the radiator cap (not actually on the radiator) in good shape and seating properly?

If the answer is yes to all of the this, than I would try picking up some heavy duty flush from the local parts store and flush the system really well.

Replaced thermostat and flushed out heater core 3 times 3 times it was cloggged, flushed system twice got good radiator flow and ther very hot just heat like luke warm one line in to core hot one oming out...


If the heater core is not damaged or leaking ie: if you don't see coolant on the INSIDE of your windshield or coolant on the floor inside the car then chances are you may just need to BLEED the radiator.

remove radiator cap

Fill coolant resovoir to the cold line if the engine is cold from sitting overnight.

Start engine with cap off

Wait till engine gets hot

While waiting you will see a big gurgle of air bubbles come out and the coolant level will drop

Fill the radiator with more coolant to compensate.

When the fans come on and it stops gurgling air install the radiator cap

You are done

Watch the coolant level for the next few days and top off in the resovoir as needed to keep it filled.

Your heat should be very hot now providing you installed the correct oem thermostat correctly.
