SOURCE: 1998 nissan altima gxe -ignition problem

Hi what is happening is that your turn off your car and left the wheels turned to one side and specially if your car is parke in a hill what you have to do is to force the steering wheel to the same direction of your wheels this will free up the ignition switch it is going to be hard let me tell you but it will work and this is why your shift don't work once you have the ignition switch free then your shift will work again

Key won't turn the ignition 2000 s-series saturn

Test the battery if it does absolutely nothing when trying to turn over, if battery is good, check for a bad fuse possibly, check leads from ignition control module to the starter, possibly could be a bad ignition switch in the car. if the car attempts to turnover but wont start, you could be looking at a bad starter, fuel pump. Before you go too far into it though, just get the battery tested better to start small with these things, Good Luck!

Key won't come out of ignition, car won't start, panic alarm goes off when I try to start it

Sounds to me like you need a new ignition switch. Take the vehicle to a mechanic and have them further evaluate.

Key wont turn to start car

I know tis may sound a little bad but have you tried to turn the wheel while you turn the key. Sometimes the wheel gets locked up when turned to far after the key is removed.

I have a 2002 sunfire... and i have trouble turning it on. Once it startes it is stuck there because it will not turn at all. Once it is in this position the wipes wont work, the windows wont roll down,...

sounds like you need a new ignition, reason nothing works cause once it doese turn over n starts the car the tumbler is stick in the starting position jus not far enough to keep the starter engaged but far enough the it still trying to go trough the start process which cuts the power to everything else till the ignition returns to the on postion

did you try jus turning the ignition far enough to when the starter engages jus let go of it so the car doesnt start and see if everything else still doesnt work if it dont i belive its the igniton

also with out starting it or engaging the starter as in just turning the key on to get power does anything work?

Why wont the keys come out of the ignition or even turn all the way off

Your ignition is shot would be the first thought, since it won't turn to the off position. Is your car engine shut off? If so try and start it or turn the key forward as far as you can and then try to turn it back. If no luck, remove negative battery cable and call it a night.

1999 Chevy silverado z71trying to program a new key fob

Use this procedure for New Body Style.
1. Close all doors
2. Insert key into ignition
3. Hold down the power UNLOCK button on the driver's door panel, continue to hold down
until instructed to release in step 9.

4. Perform steps 5 through 8 in a fairly rapid succession.
5. Turn the ignition to the ON position (as far as you can go without starting the engine.)
6. Turn the ignition to the OFF position.
7. Turn the ignition to the ON position (as far as you can go without starting the engine.)
8. Turn the ignition to the OFF position.
9. Release the power UNLOCK button on the door panel. The vehicle should respond by
door locks locking and unlocking automatically. (If locks do not cycle after you let go,
not before you let go of the unlock button, then the vehicle has not entered programming
mode and you must start procedure over. Remove key from ignition, open drivers door
and return to step 1 ). If the locks do cycle automatically then proceed to step 10.

10. Hold down the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the remote until the doors lock and
unlock. This may take up to 30 seconds.

11. Repeat step 10 NOW for each additional remote. (Including any existing remotes).
12. Turn the ignition to the ON position to exit the programming mode.
13. Test remote(s).

How to change ignition

there is a button located right on the botom of ignition somtimes you are required to remove the plastic housing to access the button but you turn ignition clowely and aply presure to buton
if you dont have the key use a pair of vice grips grab the pim and pull it out there will be some carnage and it is a lot easier to re install ignition if you have a key

failing this go to youtube and do a search on how to pick ignition and learn how
it's actually easy to do with paper clips
if ignition just wont turn with original key
place key in ignition and tap it with a malat do not remove between hits just wack and try and turn and yes have paitence

if no key drill ignition tron center use a 1/2 inch drill and set speed to high and start drill spinnning b4 you hit ignition
once 1 inch in stop and try and turn it with screw driver
if not turn then drill a little further if you have a key mark drill with key use some tape and allways come up short never go to far as it will snap ignition and may destroy switch behind ignition

If the light has not stop blinking when you wait ten minutes then it is not going to crank. My does it a lot but after 10 minutes the light has stopped blinking. I think that the ignition switch needs replacing or maybe just the key is worn out. I think when anybody goes to fix this GM problem it is a guessing game.
