If you start at the brake pedal pad itself (the part you put your foot on) and follow it up under the dash you will find switches that contact the pedal arm when it is in its resting position and barely or not contacting when the pedal is pressed down, two if you have cruise control one if you don't the one with the vacuum line is for the cruise and the other is for the brake lights it usually has two wires plugged into it. one should be white and the other should be orange
hope this helps....thanks for choosing FIX YA!

Change brake light switch

Brake light checkout:

The brake light switch is on the brake pedal arm.
You can adjust it or replace it. Usually the problem is a rubber stop falls out and the switch end goes into the hole and never actuates.
Look around there and check that area out.
Hope this helps.

Brake lights dont work on 96 cheve k1500

I'd suspect the brake light switch.
I have a '93 that has the same problem.
Under the dash is a brake light switch that is mounted so when you push the brake pedal, the switch "opens" allowing a complete circuit to light the brake lights.
That switch is "cheap".
It can get out of adjustment, and can fail. You might be able to work it with your finger to test it.
Also check the wires to the switch.
Be blessed.

No brake lights on rear of truck. Turn signals work and brake light on top with cargo light works but not on rear of truck

Brake light on top works tells me the switch at the pedal is ok. Turn signals working tells me that the turn signal filaments have power.

I would try changing the bulbs and if that doesn't work have an electrical shop trace the wires and check for power on the brake light circuit in the back.

Ther is a switch located on the brake pedal assembly up under the dash in alot of models that can be physically unplugged taken out and replaced. And if it is not there there might be one attached to the master cylinder that also can be unplugged and replaced.

Does the MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH control the rear brake lights? My top (third brake light) works, just not the back ones. My 4 way switch snapped on me so I have to move it around to get it right so I can use...

You need to replace the multifunction switch, the wireing to the brake lights in the rear are shared by this switch and the brake light switch and because the third one is working then it is unlikely the brake switch is defective.

Brake lights dont work but the other tail lights do

Check the brake light switch under the dash attached to the brake peadal arm. It is wher the break booster push rod attaches. Sometimes that switch works loose.
