Question about Mazda 6

Open Question

P0715 code received on my Mazda, had sensor replaced but not sure what else the code error could be if issue is still there, still shifting rough.

Got an error code that my Input speed sensor had failed so I took it to the dealer to get it fixed as I noticed it was shifting harder from 1st to 2nd and the AT light comes on when going down hill(not sure if its because the transmission is trying to control the down hill speed or not, but it wont come on when driving til your at a down angle). I got the car back and the lights were still on, my receipt says they cleared it but just in case i'm taking it back to the dealer today to have them clear it again. I noticed it was still shifting a bit hard at first when driving it home(on a scale of 1-10, a 3), my question is what else could be wrong that gave the P0715 error code, and should i pay to have the dealer diagnostic test it(already paid 250 for them to fix this issue), they may no mention to me that i still had an issue with the car when i came to pick it up.

    All i was told was your car is ready, we replaced the sensor, your gonna need new tires soon.

It is possible that this code can be caused by the speedometer head itself. The signal from the speed sensor is processed in the speedometer and then sent to the ECM. Check the two screws on the back of the speedometer to see if they are loose. If so retighten and drive to see if the check engine light comes back on. If they are tight, replace the speedometer assembly( I think you gave to purchase the entire meter assembly). If the light still comes on, which is unlikely, you will need to check the wire going to the ECM.

I would try a flush. If its set up like my 96, and it likely is, changing the trasmission gasket and filter will be difficult. Mine has a medal plug on the bottom and takes an allen wrench, and possibly a breaker bar. If you take out this plug, drain, flush then refill via the dipstick tube and a funnel, it may help. You may need to do this a couple of times due to fluid still in the torque converter, pan, etc.
Lucas is good stuff, I would add it again when I was done. The tranny fluid should be pink, mine looked like used oil black before I flushed it.
Also, when adding the new fluid, shift slowly up and down through all of the gears to lube well and check your fluid levels after 100 miles or so, as sometimes a bubble will form and make it look full....then not after it pops.

They are correct as to the Location of the Sensor and, It would be a Time Consuming and Expensive Repair But, If you are not getting the Red Caution Light I would have the Tranny Flushed and Filled and see if it is not Just Buildup on the Sensor. It could actually Release itself. If not you will eventually have to get a Rebuild Buut, Try the Flush and Fill First.

You dont have to pull the tranny to fix this. Some so called "experts" on here shouldnt be giving advice if they dont know. The solenoid pack is located in the front the transmission just below the air filter and in front of the input speed sensor you just replaced. Unbolt the connector with a 10mm socket then the bolts connecting to the tranny. Replace with a new one 140 bux or close(get a new one). Installation is vice versa. Easy fix for any person who is mechanically inclined. Always get a second or third opinion when asking a thousand dollar question on any website. Some people think they know....but they dont.

P0700 Transmission Control System Malfunction
P0720 Output Speed Sensor Circuit Malfunction
P0715 sets when there is an error in the transmission's input speed sensor signal. On the front of the trans there is an input and output speed sensor that the trans controller looks at for shifting control.

While the code could have set because of a wiring or connection problem, it's almost surely the sensor. Input speed sensor failures are not uncommon.

The input speed sensor is mounted right on the front of the trans directly under where the cooler lines attach. It threads directly in and has a 1" hex for a socket for removal. If the wiring and connection look visibly ok then I would recommend replacing the sensor

P0715 IS INPUT SPEED SENSOR ERROR AND P0734 IS GEAR RAIO ERROR IN 4TH..I WOULD TRY REPLACING THE INPUT SENSOR FIRST..LOCATED IN FRONT OF TRANS ABOVE SOLENOID PACK..CLOSET ONE TO THE ENGINE..SCREWS INTO TRANS..ABOUT 40 BUCKS..DISCONNECT BATTERY WHILE REPLACING,OR IF YOU HAVE SCANNER,CLEAR CODES AND QUICKLEARN TCM..THESE ARE A FAIRLY COMMON PROBLEM
