Engine stalls cold or RPM fluctuates at idle up and down or dies near idle.

This problem is commonly caused by a dirty automatic idle speed control valve and throttle valve but always run a OBD2 fault code as well as the cleaning procedure. Buy a can of throttle valve cleaner (do not use carburetor spray cleaner!) from NAPA or Carquest (made by CRC chemicals) and spray it into the air intake while the engine is running, use up about 1/2 the can, engine will try to stall hold the speed up, shut it down and let it soak for 30 minutes, restart and blow out the remaining fluid, shut it down and disconnect the negative battery cable for 5 Min's to reset the base idle control. If the above cleaning doesn't cure your issues you need to have the computer controlled automatic idle speed control system diagnosed and repaired by a dealer or electronic engine control repair shop.

SOURCE: 97 Ford Ranger no heat

I may be missing something here, but first and formost, check the antifreeze (when the car is cold) and see if you have enough in the radiator. Next, consider the thermostat. Finally, check to see if the dampers are opening up to allow heat to travel into the cab. I suspect it is not related to the A/C.

SOURCE: 1989 ford ranger automatic transmission

Your truck has a A4LD transmission. The older ones had major problems. What i believe is happening with yours is the converter is locking up intermittently. 1st-4th are actual gears for 5th(overdrive) the converter locks. I had the same problem as well as did alot of people I spoke with. I solved it by getting a used A4LD out of a '92 ranger with a 3.0L motor (these transmissions had some upgrades to deal with a number of problems including the one you are talking about.) You will need to swap bell-housings (this requires the pump to be shimmed properly,I paid a shop $100 to install the pump ,with is attached to the back of the bell-housing) There are only 2 kinds of A4LD one for floor shift and 1 for column shift, make sure you get the right one.Good luck.

SOURCE: The alternator is good but does not charge battery

I suspect you took a volt meter to check the battery's output. You can very well have a battery that reads good voltage although the alternator will not charge the battery.
Now have a volt meter in hand to perform a simple test. SET the meter to AC for this test. Connect the volt meter with the engine running to see if the alternator is charging. This may sound strange although it tells you something.. Take the red probe to the volt meter and connect it to the negative post of the battery. Now put the black probe of the meter on the positive post of the battery.
Now if the meter or display reads a voltage reading the diode is at fault making the alternator not charging the battery. The diode is specially to keep the current running one direction which is call DIRECT CURRENT. Remember I had you set the meter to the AC mode? That is for ALTERNATING CURRENT which nor vehicle has for a charging system. Direct current is used on all cars for any voltage used is not returned but constantly used up at all times. The main reason it has stayed this way if for the spark plugs. They are like a fire cracker in a way. Once a spark is made it is history and can not be retrieved.
The diode keeps the battery current running one direction and the diode is designed only for this reason for direct current. When a diode goes bad the current will reverse & will not produce a charge to the battery as well.

SOURCE: brakes seized on ford ranger

A drum brake shoe lining may have become separated from the metal pad that holds it in place and will cause the wheel to lock. The only repair necessary is to replace the brake linings with new ones. The loose piece of brake lining, if this is the cause, will not likely cause any difficulty removing the drum.

Check the fuel filter and replace it. Also check the fuel pressure. But first and foremost thing which can cause this must be the fuel filter. It must be checked at every regular maintenance interval.

1996 Ford Explorer XLT V6 - will start but stalls after 5 mins.

This can be cause by many things, such as a fuel pump going bad / or is bad, fuel injectors need cleaned / replaced, fuel filter dirty just to name a few. Could also have a vapor lock where the fuel line is running to close to a heat source like the manifold or engine and the heat creates a vacum in the fuel line stopping the flow of fuel. Best bet have a garage repair shop look at it. To many hit and miss causes.
