Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

Fuel contamination After filling up with diesel at my Mondeo Mk3 130 TDCI almost immediately began to suffer performance problems. These include black smoke when accelerating, very poor fuel economy and rough engine running at around 2000rpm. Prior to filling up, the car was running absolutely fine as I'd just completed a 350 mile drive with no issues at all. I'd really appreciate any help to diagnose this problem. Many Thanks Tony

Thanks for the reply Dennis, After looking at a few other posts on this topic I think it would be wise to give my EGR valve and inlet manifold a clean for good measure too.

You likely got a load of water contaminated fuel, diesel fuel absorbs water like a sponge. Drain the fuel or add a water absorbing diesel fuel additive available from many parts stores.

SOURCE: 2.0 TDCi Ford Mondeo '03 plenty revs but lost most

Lost power and Black smoke:

You have a Failed MAP Sensor and / or the vacuum line is off or cracked.

The ECU thinks the engine is under full load and is getting all the fuel it can to the engine.

Hope this tip helps guide you to solve this problem.

I would replace number 6 injector or have it reconditioned. There is dirt in the nozzle of the injector that causes this problem. No injector cleaner will clean dirt rust from the fuel tank, if that has entered them.

Mondeo Mk3 TDCI suspected fuel contamination

indicates that the fuel was petrol and not diesel
best id to drain the tank , change the fuel filters and refill with the correct fuel
could be contaminated tank at the station but as most have a petrol and diesel hoses side by side it is easy to fill from the wrong hose

Black smoke from exhaust but computor saying 44.5 mpg around town. 2.0ltr. mondeo deisel

Your duplicate question did not say it was a diesel.
Usually black smoke on a diesel is dirty injectors or the engine temp not reaching normal range.

Mondeo 55 plate starting problems when the engine is warm

Hi Warren,,
These cars are fitted with a Delphi common rail system that is known for various faults including yours, you need to have a sealed rail test done on the injectors as they are probably leaking off to much causing low pressure in the common rail, when the car is warm, they also suffer with injector code loss ,no reason they get confused this normally gives poor performance and high fuel consumption ,if the injectors are fine check the system for air leaks in the fuel supply pipes and check the leak off pipes for leaks, even the smallest leak can let air in,if the engine light has come on get the codes read ,
