Question about 2005 Hyundai Elantra

2 Answers

I went to Walmart to replace the battery in my 2004 Hyndai Elantra and they said that I had to go to the dealer for replacement since the battery has a bolt running through it. He said that they could not replace it for me. Have you ever heard of such a thing and can I possibly modify the battery or do it myself?

Thats fuuny about having to go to the dealer. ive heard some crazy things come out of wal-mart. i cant give detail about how to replace it with out seeing it but take it to another auto repair shop and im sure it can be done. youe should just have the two terminals and a hold down bolt to take off. maybe a cover of some sort. write back if you have anymore questions.

I have a 2005 Elantra and was told at Walmart that they didn't have a battery that would fit. I went to o'reillys and they listeded two batteries... the same size WAlmart stocked and a smaller model with more amps. I bought the smaller one, and when installing it, I noticed that thre was plenty of room for either battery.

However, my battery did not have a"bolt" through it....

2004 Hyundai Elantra Fuel Door

Check inside the trunk on the side of the fuel door. Most manufacturers make an emergency release handle for just such situations. It may be behind the trunk liner but should be on the same side of the vehicle as the door is.

2004 Hyundai Elantra problems after replacing alternator

Sound to me like some wires were either disturbed or crossed and are shorting out maybe when you replaced the alternator?Maybe have a look at the alternator connections again and make sure everything is correct and tight and that the new alternator is the right one for your car.Other than that its a case of tracing the wires from the alternator to the fusebox to find whats blowing your fuse.

2004 Hyndai Elantra starts, runs for 1-2 sec. then shuts off.

Your car may have an "immobilizer" which is part of the security system. It will start and stall if someone uses an "unauthorized" key to start it. In other words, a key that was not programmed by Hyundai or the dealer to run the engine. This happens if you had repairs done and immobilizer was interrupted and all keys were not present for programming and you're using one of those keys perhaps and sometimes it just loses its frequency. These systems often have a different frequency each time they're coded so all keys must be programmed at the same time every time. Sometimes the immobilizer coding process is simple and included in the owners manual...NOTE: this could be an indication of a bigger problem if it keeps happening.
Good luck
