Question about 1999 Dodge Ram

1 Answer

Fuel problem i have a 1987 ford-150 went to start truck today and it started but the engine was racing to high could not get the engine to idle down so i tried to shut it off by turning the ignition key to off when i did the motor still kept running it actually died after 5 minutes of runnning by flooding it self out i disconnted the battery cables so nothing else would happen..i must say i recently had the ignition module and starter solenoid changed because it was shutting down and then after a few minutes it would fire back up my machanic fixed this..could it be that the distributor was bumped to a way to make engine run to rich or is my timing off my distributor cap and rotor and ignition coil are fine.this is a straight 6 engine in it and only has 71,000 on motor.

High low idle, rough idle stalling

If it's surging, make sure your radiator is full. Do a tune up, plugs, wires, etc. Put some fuel injector cleaner in your fuel tank. On a cold start the vehicle compensates for being cold by adding fuel. Once it warms up the computer tells it to quit adding extra fuel. If it is a bad sensor of sorts, check engine light should come on.

I have a 1987 f-150 ford and it high idles at 2500 to 3000 rpm what can cause this problem. this truck has a 5.0 in it.

Check the throttle cable for binding and the engine for vacuum leaks.
You may have a stuck idle air control solenoid.
It is hard to say what it might be. Start running some tests and it will help narrow your search.

Car starts hard when hot after sitting half hour, but once started will start over and over.problem is it sitting a little while.

When sitting most likely your getting some fuel down into the cylinders - this is very common on high performance cars. When it sets the fuel build up pressure in the engine.

The easy fast fix is a high performance starter -or even a race mini starter.

You probably need a tune up or timing might have been changed which would alter the rpms. Replacing the module can erquire moving the distridutor and it may not have been returned to the same position. I have experienced same problem.
