I had a slight headgasket leak.antifreeze out of top of motor.barsleak stopped the leak.i flushed the heatercore and changed the t-stat withfactory temerature stat.the stat opens at about 170 degrees and closes quickly at any stop.even after driving30 miles or more highway.heat output is poor and motor runs cold.the control vavle to the heatercore seems to be opening.. please help.thanx freezing in ohio
Check the hoses going to inlet and outlet to heater core. You may have accidentaly hooked them up backwards since you said you flushed the heater core out. Also did the barsleak have the aluminum filings in it?

I have seen dexcool( orange coolant ) clog many things. If it was mine i would take notice of which side is cool and remove hoses and take garden hose and flush it out in reverse. In other words push water in from the cool side in the oposite direction that it normally flows. It worked on my 2001 buick.
in the case of no heat and slight smell of antifreeze i would back flush the heater core and also check the carpet around the heater vents under the dash if the heater core is leaking the carpet may be wet. find the 2 hoses going to the firewall if you start the motor and let it warm up with the heater on 1 should be hot and one should be cold disconnect them and use a garden hose to flush water in the hose thats cold.
these trucks are famous for plugged heatercores, what you do is,remove both hoses to heatercore at firewall, mark there location, next cut two peices of heater hose, about 12 inches long, slide on the heatercore where the hoses where, then use a water hose and flush in both directions a few times, then you should have heat, also if its been a while i would also have the cooling system flushed out, hope this helps. good luck.
this means that you have a headgasket leak flush the system take out the antifreeze fill with just water put in a bottle of block seal / headgasket sealer run the engine for about 3 to 4 hrs then flush out the system again and fill with antifreeze (remember that block seal will clog your system (if) you don't get all the antifreeze out ( read the label on the bottle (autozone carries block seal) about 25;00 bucks
the problem might be the water pump but unlikely unless your engine temperture gage spikes, the problem might be your heatercore. it is a small radiator in your car to heat up the air, they become clogged but dribre in your antifreeze, you should try cleaning it out first before replaceing anything
Are your antifreeze 50/50 mix. Too much antifreeze ratio will cause over heating, the antifreeze will start to gel when it get's hot causing poor circulation. Water is the best liquid for heat transfer but it will also boil over and steam out the radiator cap, that is why antifreeze is added to keep this from happening. Looks like you have covered most of the base on your cooling system, Did you do a complete cooling system flush to get some of the corrosion out and it's been know for the orange antifreeze when gelled will clog up the cooling system. Make surer you have 50/50 mix and if you not sure you can buy a antifreeze meter at any large parts store like Auto Zone. Keep me posted, be glad to help.
Sounds like you may be able to fix it by flushing your antifreeze and back flushing the heater core. Some car owners cheep out and put stop leak into the antifreeze, others dont change there antifreeze at all. Both are mistakes.
yup, its running to that point before it dripps off. you can bypass the heater core to stop the leaking, but you won't have heat. take the two heater core hoses ( two hoses connected at the fire wall on passenger side) and connect them together. you will need a fitting to connect them with.
CHECK ALL OF THE HOSES, LOOK FOR ANY LEAKS OF ANTIFREEZE,CHECK THERMASAT SOMETIMES THEY CAN GET STUCK AND WON'T OPEN SO IT CLOSES UP AND DOESN'T ALLOW ANTIFREEZE TO PASS THREW THE MOTOR AND DOESN'T REACH THE TEMPERTATURE REQUIRED,TRY FLUSHING THE RADIATOR,IF NOT CHECK OUT YOUR WATERPUMP MAYBE ITS NOT WORKING,TRY GETTING FIX SOON IF IT OVERHEATS TO MUCH IT CAN BLOW YOUR HEADGASKET
