stop starting it you more than likely have a rod(or several) knocking either at the wrist pin or the rod bearing this is a relatively easy repair just labor intensive if you have the facilities to repair it the engine will need to be removed and torn down u will obviously need a cherry picker and engine stand
basically just overhaul the engine this is pretty straight forward and not to difficult for a newbie (i got started on pontiacs) make sure you have a good service manual (73-77 chiltons domestic hardcover is what i have) from the period for torque specs and torque sequences etc and always be sure to replace your oil pump with a new 1
