Hey Strat Man
I dont know if you've tried this but most late model Fords have at lock-out but that can get actuated for a bunch of reasons.
Solution: if your shifter is on the floor look on the and in "P" just to the right of the shift column there is a little either 1/2 inch circle or square pry this little cover off with a screwdriver to reveil the access hole then take the screwdriver and stick it straight into the hole and you will feel a button push the button in and this should get you out of "P" and back on the road. Keep the cover off and the screwdriver handy just in case it happens again. Hope this helps

Why is it so hard to get my Taurus out of park

Be uber careful with that transmission. Those are delicate pieces on a Taurus. The park pawl is what's sticking. You may have a low pressure issue from the pump or you might be parking on a grade and not using the park brake. Use the park brake and save your park pawl. They can brake off and then you have no park...

You have a shift interlock cable that is suppose to release the shifter when you depress the brake pedal, it sounds like there might be a problem with the interlock cable or the interlock solenoid.

My 1997 ford taurus wont shift out of park. The shifter seams to be stuck, it wont move. The shifter is on the steering wheel not the floor.

This is often a switch located on the brake pedal lever. The car requires you to press the Brake pedal before shiftting out of Park. You lose the signal when a foot hits or breaks this part. Look under the dash for the part and fix it.

Is it on a steep incline, if so it will have to be pushed the opposite direction that gravity is pulling on it. ie if headed up hill push from rear. If it is on a level it is probably in the ignition key position that has it locked out. Jiggle the ignition while trying to take it out of park. Also some models requite the brake to be pressed down. Check and see that the switch on the brake that is associated with the transmission selector is not faulty or misaligned. If that fails it will probably have to go into the shop. Hope one of these works, the position of the ignition is one of the worst causes of transmission selector problems across all cars.

I have a ford Taurus 1998 V6 and the car is stuck in Park

If you are parked on a steep grade, the pressure on the transmission might make it feel stuck. It might take a lot of pressure to pull the handle out of park.

If that isn't it, try disconnecting the shifter from the transmission, then try to operate it. At least it will show whether the problem is in the transmission or shifter linkage. You DO have the key turned on and foot on brake while trying to get it out of park, don't you?
