My back lights wont come on but the brake lights work, does anyone know t he problem? 96Jeepgrandcherokee

IF ALL THE OTHER LIGHTS ARE WORKING THEN THE SWITCH ON THE SIDE OF THE TRANSMISSION IS BAD. IF YOU ARE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE TURN SIGNALS AND RUNNING LIGHTS THERE IS A CIRCUIT BOARD IN THE TAIL LIGHT ASSY THAT OFTEN FAILS ON THIS BECAUSE OF WATER GETTING INSIDE THE HOUSING. I GOT MINE FROM JC WHITNEY.

Back up lights don't work see them start when going in neutral but lose when in reverse. 1997 jeep Cherokee country 4x4

Neutral Safety switch out of adjustment or defective, located on shift linkage LEFT side of transmission.

Are the back up (reverse lights) in series---where if one bulb is out neither side works---on a jeep cherokee?

no, they are 12 volt bulbs and require parallel wiring. If you have a manual transmission, check the reverse light switch on the transmission for continuity with the transmission in reverse. If you have an automatic, the reverse switch is integrated into the transmission range switch at the shift cable attach point. In either case, the wires at the switch are yellow/dark green stripe and brown/light green stripe.

My 2001 jeep grand cherokee limited back up lights wont work. No fuse listed just for b/u lights.

You have a switch on the transmission that turns the back up lights on when put into reverse. It may need adjusting. It has to be done with carefulness. The car has to be in reverse and the switch adjusted at the same time until the back-up lights come on. It may be safer for a shop to do this unless you feel comfortable doing it.

Back up lights and license plate light doesn't work.

Reverse lights are activated by a small switch on the transmission. Usually located on the passenger side of the vehicle with a small rubber cap over the switch, Your plate light bulbs are probably in need of replacement, and have nothing to do with the reverse lights.

Wont start in Park But will start in Nuetral

Neutral safety switch usually threaded into transmission, unless AW-4 model. Same switch used to trip back-up lights. Look for harness with approx 3-4 wires, unplug & unscrew switch from transmission.
