Are there any bolts inside the outer pulley? By the gear, do you mean the crank sprocket that runs the belt? That would definitely separate from the damper. If all else fails, you may have to raise or lower the engine to get the pulley off and past the sidewall.

Well come to conclusion that motor has to be pulled on this type of motor course thats after breaking harmonic balanced and gear and it still wont come off bummer autozone repair guides are not correct if anyone thinking of using them.!!!

How to take off crankshaft pulley on 2001 chevy metro. When I turn center bolt the pulley turns. Is there any other bolts that need to be removed? How do i remove this pulley?

if you have a standard transmission, put it in a high gear and set the parking brake.
If you have an automatic, you might have to remove the starter and lock the starter gear with a screwdriver or vicegrip. Make sense? Also, you may need a puller to get the vibration damper off the crankshaft.

Replace alternator 2001 ford windstar van

Hi, first you disconnect the battery. then you need to take the belt off by the back pulley. But you don't need to take it all the way off. Just so you get the alternator belt off. I just replaced the one on my 1997. Then you have three bolts, and one small nut to remove . Then put all back together the way you took them off.
Take care

Bolt on crankshaft to remove clockwise or counterclockwise?

prev.gif next.gif Crankshaft Damper/Pulley counterclockwise to remove pulley:
REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
  1. Remove the drive belts from the crankshaft damper.
  2. Remove the crankshaft damper-to-crankshaft bolt. Hold the crankshaft stationary by placing a suitable tool in the ring gear teeth on the flywheel. Fig. 1: Use a breaker bar to remove the crankshaft damper bolt 89613g41.gif
Fig. 2: The crankshaft can be held stationary by using a suitable tool to place between the flywheel teeth 89613g42.gif
Fig. 3: Be sure to lubricate the threads of the crankshaft damper bolt to obtain a proper torque reading 89613pi9.jpg

  3. Remove the crankshaft damper from the crankshaft by pulling it straight off the shaft. A puller may be required to remove the damper from the shaft. Be careful not to lose the woodruff key when removing the crankshaft damper. Fig. 4: The crankshaft damper can sometimes be pulled from the shaft by hand 89613pj1.jpg
Fig. 5: A puller may be required to remove the crankshaft damper 89613g40.gif
NOTE: If working on a VE30DE or VQ30DE engine, it would be a good idea to replace the crankshaft oil seal when the crankshaft damper is removed. Fig. 6: The timing chain cover oil seal should be replaced whenever the crankshaft damper is removed; this seal is leaking severely 89613pj2.jpg
Fig. 7: This crankshaft damper may have a problem sealing properly due to the groove that was worn into it from the seal 89613pj4.jpg
    To install:
  4. Install the crankshaft damper onto the shaft, making sure the woodruff key is in place. Dip the damper bolt in fresh oil and torque the crankshaft damper-to-crankshaft bolt to the following specifications:
    • VG30E engine — 90–98 ft.lbs. (123–132 Nm.)
    • VE30DE engine — 123–130 ft.lbs. (167–177 Nm.)
    • VQ30DE engine — 29–36 ft.lbs. (39–49 Nm.) followed by 60–66°clockwise angle torque
  5. Install the drive belts to the crankshaft damper; be sure to properly set belt tension.

The 2001 Windstar we have here only has 7 pulleys and the diagram dosnt match any ides.

here you go. please rate, thanks

Item Part Number Description 1 8620 Drive Belt 2 10300 Generator Pulley 3 6C348 Idler Pulley 4 6B209 Drive Belt Tensioner 5 3D673 Power Steering Pump Pulley 6 2E884 A/C Clutch Pulley 7 6A312 Crankshaft Vibration Damper Pulley 8 8A528 Water Pump Pulley
s1w~us~en~file=ani_caut.gif~gen~ref.gif CAUTION: The drive belt tensioner has no provision for adjustment and will be damaged if forced to travel beyond its operating range. Automatic tensioners are calibrated at the factory to provide the correct amount of tension to the belt. There is no need to check tensioners for proper tension.
NOTE: Drive belts (8620) with automatic drive belt tensioner (6B209) do not require adjustment.
NOTE: When a drive belt is installed new or reinstalled after a service procedure, the drive belt does not fully seat into pulley grooves until engine has run for several minutes.
This vehicle is equipped with:
  • a V-ribbed serpentine accessory drive belt.
  • automatic drive belt tensioners.
New drive belts should be of the same type as originally installed.
Drive belt chirp is a regularly occurring chirping noise that occurs due to:
  • pulley misalignment.
  • excessive pulley runout.
It can be a result of a damaged pulley or an incorrectly replaced pulley that was not correctly aligned.
To correct drive belt chirp:
  • determine the area where the noise comes from.
  • check each of the pulleys in that area with a straightedge to the crankshaft pulley (6312) for front accessory drive and the water pump drive pulley to the water pump.
  • look for the accessory pulley to be out of position in the fore/aft direction or at an angle to the straightedge.
Drive belt squeal is an intermittent noise that occurs when the drive belt slips on a pulley during certain conditions such as:
  • engine start-up.
  • rapid engine acceleration.
  • A/C clutch engagement.
Drive belt squeal can occur under the following conditions:
  • The A/C discharge pressure goes above specifications:
    • The A/C system is overcharged.
    • The A/C condenser airflow is blocked.

A/C works but no hot air in defroster or front vents. Rear heat works 2001 ford windstar

If rear heat works then it is not a thermostat problem.
A frequent Ford problem is the damper motor which is located behind the radio. The motor has a plastic gear inside and it wears.

If you plan to replace it by yourself it could take one hour. It suggested to by the special tool to remove the radio, at the dealer for $10.

Once the radio removed you should see a plastic unit about 3 X 4 inches. This is the actuator/motor. Unscrew the two or three bolts (8mm?) then you will have it in your hand. Inspect the plastic gear. If I'm right the gear will be bad. If it is, buy the replacement part at your dealer for about $70 and install it following reversed procedure. If I'm wrong you will have lost $10 for the radio special tool and maybe 30 minutes of your time.
Let us know about the result.
Hope it will help
Dan
