My antifreeze keeps turning brown and full of sludge. Why is this happening?

most probably a failed/split transmission cooler in the radiator tank
If that is the case , the fix is a new radiator and a chemical flush of the radiator
get quotes from an accredited radiator shop after getting a proper diagnosis of the fault

The water comrs bown water is that good

Are you saying that the water in the radiator is brown?
If the water is brown it would indicate rust from the engine which means there is probably no antifreeze which is also a corrosion inhibitor. If the water has a lot of sludge it would indicate a blown head gasket which is not so good.

Antifreeze is coming out resevoir tank doesn't seem to be circulation

If you put too much antifreeze in the tank it will overflow when the engine gets warm

I have a thick dark brown sludge in my antifreez resevoir tank is it oil or really old antifreeze?

Usually antifreeze and oil mixing causes a dark whiteish milkshake consistancy liquid so if its a dark color i'd guess its REALLY old antifreeze with a lot of corrosion from your engine. Get it flushed and changed a.s.a.p. and hope it didnt mess it up to bad.

92 pontiac transport montana missing and brown gunk in antifreeze overflow. just had heater core replaced a few days ago. possible cause? dont want to get taken by mechanics. $1200 in

Are we talking about two different problems ??
The miss could be a plug or wire or injector - even a compression problem.
The dirty coolant could be built up over several years.
And yes it could be a faulty head or intake gasket.

How do i tell where my water pump is and whether it is working properly or not

Where the water pump is actually located depends on what engine your vehicle is equipped with. Most water pumps will work just fine until they start leaking. You will see antifreeze leaking on the ground near the front PULLY END of the engine. In rare cases, the warter pump has internal damage from the impellers being badly corroded. This is usually accompanied by a lot of brown "sludge" in the radiator tank. If you do not have this brown sludge, (your antifreeze looks clean) then this is most likely not the problem.

Oil in the radiator

are you sure its oil in the antifreeze? oil is brown. your van should have dexcool wich is orange, not green.(looks red sometimes)check the coolant again and check the oil. if it looks milky or foamy, there is coolant in it. sounds like it may be a blown head gasket. not good. stop driving it if you want to save your engine. you need to replace the head gasket/s, and flush the cooling system.

Sounds like the antifreeze is WAY pased the point that it needs to be changed. Should be drained, backflushed and have new installed.
