A failing fuel pump will not create enough pressure in the fuel system, potentially resulting in a loss of engine power or a "no start" condition. You may also have a lean running condition that can set a diagnostic trouble code and turn on the Check Engine Light.
Fuel pumps require replacement if they leak or begin making too much noise, which is a sign of malfunction.

Mercury sable 1996 changed fuel filter had brown gas in it did this ruin fuel pump. Can hear pump when trying to start car

Most likely the fuel pump is ok, but there is likely air in the fuel line that you need to bleed off under the hood.

It is possible that the fuel pump went bad, and the way to know is to check the fuel pressure (same place you bleed it under the hood). The fuel pump is in the tank, so it's a real pain to change.

99 chevy express van 5.7 wont start after sitting for a day. fuel pump is new,it has spark, and no codes.

A new fuel pump can go bad but you need to know if the fuel rail has pressure or fuel in it the next day. Take something and press on the shradder valve on th fuel rail and see if you have any fuel. If not the fuel pump may be installed wrong. The fuel rail should have some pressure all the time for quick start up. I do not know if this helps but it is a start.

Will not start. turns over when i spray starting

First you need to verify that the pump is getting power. Did you check the Inertia Switch? Power goes through that switch to the fuel pump. If the switch is good, and getting power, the fuel pump is most likely bad, the fuel tank must be lowered to replace the fuel pump.
